Re: soundcloud followers.
I don't see how adding as many people as possible could be a smart move. It only makes you look desperate. I think I'd have to seriously take a look at my tunes if my 'following' got higher than my 'followers'. I hardly add anyone, only if I really enjoy their tunes, or if I know them quite well, or both.ironik wrote:notice new followers, and you check them out and they have: Following (2000)

I've never added someone back just cos they added me and I can't see how anyone respectable would do.
Re: soundcloud followers.
I added loads and loads at the start of my producing, but then I just adopted a "follow if I like them" approach.
Re: soundcloud followers.
haha i know some proper sc whores who bleed and bleed ppl for comments like its a business or something and get comments on they're tracks filled up in a matter of days. but imo shoving shit in peoples faces is a bit of an off approach, i always considered and still do that a random (haven't asked for) in depth comment on one of your own tunes is more valuable than 20 'nice' or 'basssss!' etc comments that you have ASKED for because imo at the end of the day it would be nice to have a PROPER fanbase that actually dig the shit your dropping right?paravrais wrote:I don't see how adding as many people as possible could be a smart move. Re: soundcloud followers.
I can't really see how you can get a worthwhile soundcloud experience following more than a couple of hundred people or so. I tend to do it with a few as a way of bookmarking people I intend to check out when I've got a bit more time, but I'm finding now I've been missing out on a few decent tunes from producers I do rate cos they get shunted off the dashboard within a day or so.
The new re-design's a bit better in that you can choose again not drowned in other people's comments and favouritings (there's a few people who's tracks I like but favourite or leave a "Yes!" comment or such-like on pretty much every tune they listen to), but a clearout fairly soon would probably be in order I think.

Re: soundcloud followers.
Its a tough one cos again its the whole self promotion thing but i reckon if you stick to your guns, get your craft down people will recognise that whether you got 3000 followers or not. Plus I don't want to feel i have to hastle people to listen to my shit otherwise i'd work in a fukin telecoms office.

Dont suppose it occured to you that some people actually enjoy listening to others tunes.
Re: soundcloud followers.
It's obvious that some people just add everyone and anyone without checking their tunes first in the hope that they'll follow them back. Bit of a nonsense approach.
Been noticing some proper spam whores of recent too... e.g. someone posting "love your tunes, plz follow and comment back!", then you look at their comment history and they've sent the exact same message within 20-30 second intervals to a shit ton of people and haven't even listened to any of your music.
Shooting yourself in the foot really, there's no shortcut to a loyal fan base.

You misunderstand me. Obviously if you like someone's work then add them, *thats* what it's for. We're talking about people who just add everyone they can find without checking their stuff out just in the hope they will add them back.Echoi wrote:What the fuck are you on about dude?paravrais wrote:I don't see how adding as many people as possible could be a smart move. There's nothing social about social networking
So many tricks to encourage addiction and competition... A hangover from the pokémon days
One day will most likely become worthless though innit... Like my old myspace page that just got to 100k and that site is pretty much dead now

Oh fair do's, thought it was just a generalization for those following tons of people. Appologiesparavrais wrote:You misunderstand me. I cba putting the effort in to spam. No doubt it's productive though, but it's also counter productive because people will just think "Fuck that I'm not lsitening to it" even if it's fucking amazing. I know I do anyway.

Re: soundcloud followers.
I follow way over 1k people, i won't honestly say i listen to them all, but I can say I added them because on hearing their tunes I liked what I heard and wanted to make sure if ever I wanted to I could find my way back.
Also, whoring for views is always more helpful than not whoring for views. Only a minority will look down on your for it. The rest won't notice or care.

Re: soundcloud followers.
I follow about 150 currently but have no worries about following anyone with decent tunes. I comment on most tunes that come through my dashboard, as I'm at uni studying and its easy to work through them while doing other things. To be honest most of the tunes I hear are really good, because I'm not following shit, so I'm happy to big up or constructive feedback. Also if these people check you out back and you're on a similar vibe it can't be a bad thing right. If a person keeps putting up tunes that I don't feel I'll stop following them. It is weird when people follow you who haven't even listened to your tunes, but that's their choice I guess. I'll normally check someone out who comments on a tune, see what they have. But no automatic follow me I'll follow you.
Re: soundcloud followers.
Same problem as Twitter; people are just following other people in hope they will follow them back. Some followers do check your tunes out on a regular, but most of them don't :/
It is highly recommended that you visit my YouTube page, and listen to some dirty music, it will do you good:

Really? Do you actually believe this? You look like a proper twat whoring yourself out like that. I could have guessed you would do something like that, you even come off as a promo-whore here... i can't imagine being your facebook friend or something similar... my god.kaiori breathe wrote:

Your reasoning for being a whore for views is comedic gold...just in case you didn't realize it, the minority that will look down on you are the ones that matter and the rest don't mean shit. Example, people that would care: serious artists, label execs etc and then people that don't mind : twats, people who are not involved in the industry, waste, other promo-spam-whores.
