I thought it would be cool if some of the more regular posters on here could give a little blab about their own music skills and computer production skills.

For me - I've got a wicked good ear for pitch and melody because I've studied classical and jazz piano for about 10 years. So any of the threads on here relating to pitch, key of samples, melodies, chord progressions, etc. I like to partake in. Some people on here say that they can't tell what note a sample is playing at... that must be a bitch!

In any case, I wanted to say:
1) that I am available to help anyone identify notes, pitch, or keys of samples or tunes, and I enjoy the challenge of it...
2) I'm curious what skills in either theory, or modern production you guys can say with confidence that you have.

I'm a Grade 8 Cellist.
A at GCSE Music.
B at A-level Music Technology.
I play the guitar, drums (cello obviously), piano.

I know that because most of Dubstep originally brewed in the UK that there are most likely a lot of UK users on this board...
but I just have to say to those peeps, listing ABRSM qualifications doesn't mean a whole lot to the rest of the world.

I am not going to dismiss any hard work anyone has done to learn an instrument - regardless of how many years, etc...
but I am an American living & teaching in the UK... and I think the ABRSM system is a complete waste.

Very few people outside of the UK know what a "Grade 8" even means... and even within the UK, the ABRSM standards
fluctuate so much that the continuity the whole grading system was supposed to provide, doesn't even exist.


Not having a go... just saying, there are lots of international posters on the board who won't know what you are talking about.


(I guess same goes with A-levels & GCSE's)

I can sequence drums pretty decently and I am a good at giving advice production related or not, I often give people tips of networking/throwing nights/promoting/marketing, etc,etc..

only reason i know what a-levels and all that means is b/c my parents grew up in former british colonies, where they still have o-levels, a-levels and all that.


but yeah i got a grade 8 rcm in an instrument the vast majority of musicians don't respect so i aint gonna name it...but i do have that credential, for whatever its worth.
