Looking for this type of sound (two examples inside)
Ok guys, I think I know the style of this dubstep and it's gotta fall into the whole "future garage" sub-category, however maybe some of you - by listening to the example below can guide me into more producers or even specific tunes that contain all the attributes of these two below.
Breakage - Late Night
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoNu8vlRnho
and
Phaeleh - Ellipse
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEGtNnvTrwM
As you can see, both of them are pretty chilled out - but the most important aspect of it is that they have a melody that carries the tune. Very atmospherical
Please name some names and tunes that are like this!

I donno, those picks you showed are too different for what I'm looking for, the sound doesn't really match. I want "atmosphere"
here's another example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEwxh562cNI
Clubroot has a few tunes in this vein, but I'm not looking for Clubroot suggestions - I wonder if there are other producers who share this 'atmospheric' dubstep sound, like in the three examples I provided

I think both of those tunes could be considered future garage and future garage isn't nescessarily defined by rhythm, I could see the right halfstep song falling under the "future garage" category. Of course there's going to be a lot of overlap on what's dubstep and what's future garage but genre lines are already blurry at best.Basic A wrote:No clue but just fyi, not future garage...sixamsedna wrote:Ok guys, I think I know the style of this dubstep and it's gotta fall into the whole "future garage" sub-category, however maybe some of you - by listening to the example below can guide me into more producers or even specific tunes that contain all the attributes of these two below.

And OP, neither of those songs were very melodic, I don't think I quite see what you're looking for.. but this is a VERY atmospheric piece that I've been eating up for the past couple of weeks

Im sorry did you just seriously say those weren't melodic? Ok, maybe the Breakage tune wasn't - but you gotta be deaf not to find Phaeleh's tune to be melodic, not only THAT - both are atmospheric, Breakage is darker, while Phaeleh's is more upbeat atmospheric, the synths the carry the tune CANNOT be missed. As for your suggestion, I listened to it, and it's indeed melodic, but not the type I'm looking for.
NOW the shit qwaycee posted, now THATS the sound I'm looking for. Hell yeah! Want more of that
Re: Looking for this type of sound (two examples inside)
Not to get into a semantic battle, but though Phaeleh's tune is driven by the chord progression the synths are really just doing that, the chords. There isn't like a melodic hook to either that you could whistle to somebody and they recognize instantly, you know? Not that I'm detracting from either of those songs, they're both good and I'm lookin forward to the other songs this thread will uproot, but...sixamsedna wrote:honey-d wrote:

If your looking for the atmospherical garage tip then you wont go too wrong with this guy at the moment. Synkro, D1, L-Wiz and early Benga releases are always pretty spot on for sub and melody. You wont get much better than the skreamizms for melodies for me though. Let us know if you want any more help mate.

safe to say qwaycee "gets" me. Outstanding recommendations, just right up my sonic valley.

just wanted to bump this up. Got my hands on Pariah's Safehouses EP, and this is just quality, quality melodic dubstep. This fits in with the sound I currently love in dubstep. Tune like "Railroad" is a joy to listen to. I've had my eyes on Pariah since I heard him on MAH this past summer.
