Heading down to London after the Bloc Weekend for a day to do a bit of record shopping before heading home. I was just wondering if anyone had any reccomendations for shops to check out. Last time I was there, I was in Black Market/BM-Soho and they were pretty sound, there was a black guy working behind the counter who turned me on to some really good 12"s. I'm also going to go to Phonica and Sounds of the Universe.

Can anyone else recommend any other shops? Specifically for dubstep? I know Sister Ray and Rough Trade stock some but I prefer going to places with turntables where you can try before you buy. It would be good too if there's more shops around the same area, cos my time is limited, if I have to head into a different part of town it'll have to be worth it. I went to Camden last time but it wasnt great.

Sounds of the Universe have most of the current stuff and is slighty cheaper than most.

Uptown Records have a good range of stuff in the basement.

That's the one next to where Sister Ray used to be, down towards where all the porno shops are? I dont remember them having much dubstep, though they did have some good reggaeton/ragga.

I'm not sure its that popular in the dubstep community cos no one talks about it on here and I was told to whisper it in BM but I think sister ray's dubstep section is really good... And cheaper than BM

yea sister ray's is good, its got decks too, contrary to what one of the posts up there says.

Reckless Records (also on Berwick St) is just closing down and is selling all their stuff dirt cheap. Might all be over by the time you get there though.

Nah, it wasn't in M&VE, some really nice bits in there though. Crunked up for £4 for example.

I must have found it in Reckless Records then, it was definitely around there and closing down.
I doubt there's any dubstep left though, spooks & I had a good search on DMZ weekend and that was a while ago now.

Reckless are doing everything 1/2 marked price.

Find some wicked deals, they will still be going for a couple weeks
and they have more stock the back which they will filter out
step by step.



Another London institution killed off by the digital age...

I think I know which one Reckless is... its on the same side of the street as the new Sister Ray (the old Select-a-disc shop).
That's a shame they're closing down, they always had good second hand stuff.

Yeah the digital age is cutting into second hand shops alright. Sites like discogs.com marketplace make much more economic sense if you have loads of gear to sell - there's no ground rent on the internet.

Phonica on Poland Street (just 'round from Black Market) have a decent little dubstep selection.

Check out the Music and Goods Exchange (one on Berwick st next to Vinyl Junkie) and the Soul and Dance shop on Notting Hill Gate.

Mostly second hand although some promos make it in too. I remember them getting quite a few copies of Skreamism 2 last year so you might as well give them a bash.

OK Reggae, Dub and Dancehall section too.
