I hope it meets with approval, any constructive critique is appreciated.
It is a work in progress... DNG - "Half a Days Travel"

Ok I put it here if anyone is opposed to myspace and cares to hear it:

pretty cool man. Your definitely off to a good start. by that i mean purely production quality and arrangement, not "what i think dubstep should be". the production seems pretty tight, though you might want to beef up that bass a bit. I dig the melody but the synth itself sounds kinda flat. perhaps add some lower frequencies, and maybe some movement on the bassline somehow.. with some filters or something.

I like that bitcrushed pad that just came in! but then, im a sucker for atmospherics :) wow dude, that pad is dope...

if you put love into your bass like you did to your pad, the track would be pretty dope.

all in all its cool, and i obviously love the pad, but give the bass some more work and your on your way. The vocal samples remind me of some old skinny puppy or something...

big up man, and welcome fellow southern californian 8)

huuuuge thanks :D
I am still learning the in's/outs of how to make "crushing bass" and how to make the mix sound thick n heavy.
All advice & criticism is welcome.
I have only been at producing for alittle over a year and lack a fundamental knowledge of "synth modulating" & "musical knowhow".
I be very thankful for my 10+ years of deejaying cuz without it i'd be totally lost as far as structure goes...

really interesting tune dude. i agree with what misk said on the synth being a lil flat, but the idea itself is great. i really can't say anyting else because misk really broke it down better than i ever could hahaha.

lil more work on this one and you definitely have yourself a winner :D:

I have been working on the bass alot and I am having troubles making the LFO bass wobble with a filter env tied to the Pitch Mod.
I am using Ableton Live5 and I am trying to use Albino3 to create what the "Wobble Tutorial" described. I really could use some pointers..

hmm, i dont really use albino 3. i have albino 2 but i dont currently have it loaded up on my computer. as far as sequencers go, ableton is the one i know least about!

buuuut...

usually i use some sort of sync'd LFO to modulate the filter cutoff. if you do this right, you could set the filter to BP and set a pretty high resonance on the filter, then if you can find the sweet spot between the resonance, the amount of modulation with the LFO, and the filter cutoff combined with specific notes in your B-line, you can have some REALLY killer bass.

or you could just use a LP filter and less resonance. the trick is to find where the bass resonates the most with the cutoff, and modulate around that frequency.

what i like to do, is have a bass with lots of sub so you feel it, and then a little bit of overtones so you can hear it too. just mess around with square wave oscillators, and LFO modulated filter cutoff and you'll be on your way :)

tuning the bass to "crush" is proving to be quite an endeavor,
anyone got any advice regarding this MASSIVE BASS algorithm??

I think it sounds quite good for a first too.

never used what you do specifically and don't know exactly how you're going about it, but maybe just trying playing the notes in the next octave down, or find some way to lower the highs in it (maybe bring down the cutoff filter) and bring up the volume of the whole bassline?

i like the production on this, i was smilin when the echoes were panning, sounded dapper on my system. then the bass came in... youve obviously got everything down apart from making the base. use two oscillators on one use a triangle and on the other a saw or square or all 3. then keep going down an octave on your keyboard until you have a low sub bass but one that still has movement. then add a 2or4 pole low pass filter to these oscillators. then use the filter to get rid of any high tones. once this is done you have your bass. now you need to modulate it. you need to assign a master filter. then create the wave shape you want. if you just have lfo's then assign an lfo and then record your automation....
if this doesnt make sense to you then just post back with where your stuck. it seems this is whats holding you back... i hated learning how to do it as no one would explain it properly so i had to do it the hard way and study sound design... and i fukin hate reading manuals...hope this helps

Yeah I am focusing on getting some good monitors so I can hear the sounds properly, mine is crap as of now (home theatre system). YES thank you for the advice! It is always useful info when it is shared. ;-)
I have plans to chop the bass up and drop it down a few octaves.
Mainly this is where I get frustrated... like having a great idea and getting stuck on making the sound freq's correct and stuff. =]

Holla holla holla holla,
M

Thank you for all the kind feedback I look forward to being motivated enough to finish this. Any and more feed back is welcome. :D
