Cubase 4?
Ive always wanted to have a go trying my hand at learning some form of music production program, and a mate of mine has just offered me a copy of cubase 4.
Whats the word? Apart from a bit of playing here and there i have no knowledge of dubstep production (have done a bit of music theory and stuff, so should know a bit about composition and that). So yeah, any info would be more than appreciated. (i.e. is cubase any use?)
I mean ANY info btw...

Quick question here though, how do you assign effects to individual parts of a tune rather than just through master effects? I bet its something dead simple, but without knowing what your doing the hours can just disappear trying to figure out something like this...

click on the part, when youve done that look on the left and there should be an E next to the keybourd sign that if you click brings up your vst. well if you click on that e button it should bring up a side panel with empty boxes. click on one of those to get the list of effects.
man this is hard to explain i hope you understand...

Hmm, i got to the panel with the samples on, but clicking them just made them play.
If this makes any difference, i dont think this is actually cubase 4 as it turns out

Wicked, cheers man.
Something else for ya though if you feel up to it
Just kind of playing around trying to work out the full on basics (like, basic basics...) so i put together this. Now dont get me wrong, i know its horrible but this is just for example.
Basically, (apart from refraining from making tunes that sound like something a 9 year old made from now on) i was wondering what kind of things you do to the sounds and that to make it sound, well...not like a keyboard demo
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LUJPDT0C
Thats the link, and yeah it ends suddenly, cos (and this leads me brilliantly onto my next question...) i have no idea how you would go about ending a song! Any tips?
And if that makes no sense...sorry, im wrecked 'n' all.

Re: Cubase 4?
I'll second FL Studio to get started with music-making. If you later decide you want more powerful audio-editing capabilities and more of a "proper" daw, I'll take Samplitude any day over either cubase or pro fools. Alot more bang for the buck, and the only native daw where you can truly go from arrangement to CD master in a single project. The Wiggle Baron wrote:Ive always wanted to have a go trying my hand at learning some form of music production program, and a mate of mine has just offered me a copy of cubase 4.
Actually, the $70 download version of samplitude is a nice companion to FL Studio for "mastering" mixdowns.
