Dubstep in South/East Europe?

Post by Big MD » Sun Nov 21, 2010 10:02 pm

oi!

so, i made once a thread about this, which got lost (all contacts included) because of an hacker atack.

i plan to go to to the balkans this winter and at july too. my idea is to play in every country i travel thru. this would mean: Italia, Slovenia, Chroatia, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece and Bulgaria.

Are there any promoters? i'd really love to play in other countrys. or could you help me to come in touch with them?

i'd be very thankful for your help

Cheers.

the main global moderator here (dubway) is from croatia

plenty of dubstep in croatia according to him
serbia, where i am from, not much, altho there is an underground scene and there are parties, organised by these guys sometimes http://www.facebook.com/svetlanaindustries?ref=sgm, plus the odd act at exit festival (amazing atmosphere!)

regards
PS: dont visit albania or kosovo!

Maybe there is no scene there... Or he is Serbian, and they don't like Kosovo because they declared independence from Serbia...

In Croatia, the only regular place for dubstep clubbing is in Zagreb, and there are ocasionally parties in Pula, Rijeka...

just looking out for your safety bro
also just a bleak atmosphere (have been to kosovo, horrible place) and albania is very backwards

Am gonna play in Skopje tomorrow night.. curious how it will go. Scene certainly isn't as developed as in Sofia & Bucharest.

Was pretty good... 100 people and the promoter broke even. As much as we expected really. The scene has a long way to go there! When I book a famous guest for Sofia for a Friday, I might do a Thursday there in Skopje sometime if I can persuade one certain club to give up its usual hiphop night.

Definitely a developing scene over there. As I said before, Sofia is much more happening. We'll get 200 people for midweek if I play with my usual partner and 400/500 for a weekend guest. Flux Pavilion next in March - am expecting 700.

Well...
In Serbia you only have 3 cities for dubstep : Novi Sad,Subotica & Belgrade.
Here we have 2 excellent record labels : Svetlana Industries and Syndetic Records (much love to the both of them)
So in Subotica,Syndetic Crew organize parties in different venues,as far as i know, there are doing it quite good. In Novi Sad,I run a monthly dubstep event called Dubstep Bass Check,we had our first birthday bash a week ago,had 500 people, which is really awesome because Novi Sad is not a big city.I also host an event in Belgrade called It's A Dubstep Thing,so far we had Chef,Zed Bias,Silkie and now Seven for this weekend. There are also parties from Svetlana crew and some other new people who are interested in dubstep. In Belgrade you have Dispatch festival, excellent experimental music festival that hosted Kode 9 last year and many exciting names and there is also Exit Festival in Novi Sad...

As for other countries in the Balkans,i really love playin' in Croatia, especially Zagreb, scene is very healthy there and the people there really appreciate deeper vibes.Sarajevo in Bosnia is unbelievable i love playing there and Skoplje was mad fun for me because i was the first dubstep DJ playing there and it was really cool looking at people who are listening to dubstep for the very first time :D

Is Svetlana that really hot girl who won some DJ competition last week???

ps Rasheed we should hook up sometime - http://www.facebook.com/TrueBadnessDubstep - I normally get a 20% discount if I book DJs for a double gig. It's only a 4 hour drive from Sofia to Belgrade... that's less than Bucharest or Thessaloniki, the cities I normally share with.

ps2 And bravo for bringing Seven! I wish I could, but nobody has heard of him here (even though I play at least 2 of his tunes in each of my sets) and it's a guaranteed money loser!

In Romania you can find dubstep-ish nights mainly in Bucharest (the capital) but also in Timisoara (near the border with Serbia) and Cluj.

Trolley Snatcha and Benny Page this weekend!! I played at Nero in Arenele Romane 2 months ago... best gig of my life!!!
Just until end of March, Bucharest will have Doc P, Flux, Emalkay and Borgore... the scene is massive there! I am so envious!

you shouldn`t! isn`t as big as it looks. At Loefah last year were 60 people. Is all about how the promoter markets the event and how many events are in weekend, ain`t hating, bet you enjoyed the underaged chicks :6:

haha at the underage chicks! Plenty of 20 yr olds to occupy me too!
Check this video from Nero... I am not on it as my set finished at midnight :(

And yeah with Loefah etc... that type of dubstep hasn't really kicked off here. I am trying to introduce it slowly by playing it myself before our guest DJs. I have booked Flux Pavilion for March and will have Razor Rekta from Anti Social playing before him to try to expose that side of things more. Am hoping to book Jakes or Mala for a festival in June... so slowly slowly we'll get there! We shall have Skream in 2012!! (he's already been to Bucharest!)
