Sold me keyboard today... Recommend a new one?

Ian Von Brodie stole my keyboard and a bunch of other random studio gear. He's got a nice setup now at a great price!! $200CAD for an M-audio quattro, an Evolution UC33-e, and a 4 octave midi controller. Aren't you jealous! He's got a lot of potential and is currently starting to get into dubstep so I felt obligated to chop the shit at a good price.

BUT now I need a new keyboard cause I can't do shit without one.

Any recommendations? I've got about a $200CAD budget. I really only need two or 3 octaves. I've flipped some of the cash, so I might have about $240CAD to work with... I want an Axiom :-( too much tho.

Despite being M-Audio, the Axiom series is a very good value for the money, and mine works very well. It's really easy to program, and the performance features are actually useful. The keys feel good, semi-weighted, a bit plasticky, but perfectly ok if you're not a must-have-piano-feel kinda guy.

Yeah Axiom 25 is right on the edge of my budget... I'm looking at an ozone 49 perhaps. It's got all the faders and knobs that i'd ever need and transport controls. I just sold a uc33e cause I didn't use any of those features tho, so this is less of a selling point... Maybe I should just get a stock 49 key kb...

i sold a bunch of shit last year and got an axiom-- well worth it. extremely productive, got it all mapped out so that i can control everything in logic as well as some hardware. you can do the same w/ the ozone series, too-- this just has more knobs and shit.

i've heard mixed reviews of the edirol stuff but you never know...

and there's always craigslist.

I had an edirol PCM before getting the axiom, and although I kinda liked the key action (very fast, roland-style), they don't have aftertouch and that just plain sucks. Also, the modulation "stick" rather than a wheel is about as useful as a toothpick in a barfight (e.g, if you know how to use one it can kill, but otherwise nah). :)

The axiom is also alot heavier, which is cool.

For portability though, if you're a laptop kinda guy, and don't need more than half an octave or so, those super-skinny edirol controllers look pretty nifty.

Cool. Yeah i think the axiom will suit me nicely. I don't move around too much. Do all my producing on my pc - all my office work on the laptop. I wish there was a 3 octave version tho. 2 is too small and 4 is too big.

Yeah 49 key is 2 ocatves. I just bought a 25 key Axiom and it's NICE! Wish I could have afforded the 4 octave one with the faders. This has everything I need tho and a whole lot more. I'm really excited about the tap-pads.
