Boy I don't like all those drivers but if they work they work. A lot of vintage audio gear is pretty high quality though. People seemed to care about fidelity back in the days.

How are they sounding mate?

I haven't used them for a few years since they are in my old mans garage.

I had them connected up with a small sub and was able to get the windows shaking

One of the tweeters needs some minor work(the metal grill has come off) but they are in working order.

I'm just not sure if they might colour the sound a bit? Not that my untrained ear could probably tell.

They are bloody heavy though and cost a fortune when new

mate they are some of the best speakers ever made. whats more they are the mk2 version with veneer fronts. if all the drivers work then you are looking at a pair of speakers that will sell for about 1k on ebay - but keep them.

i used to be in the music biz and we had a pair of 25's in the studio for 'vibe' work. they dont have the mid speaker and sound just like a club system
i now have some 66's at home which are brighter and better.

you lucked out - enjoy. those and a small pair of monitor reference speakers and you're good.

look after the tweeters and midrange as they are rare and expensive to replace!

p.s. you dont need a sub with them. they go lower than most subs anyway

They don't have the veneer fronts so don't look great with the gills off. Don't know if they are suitable at the moment with my odd shaped room and neighbours(with baby) downstairs. So looking forward to next year and moving into a 3 bed house with dedicated space!

Just the tweeters are apparently about £150 a pair

I do remember the mids being a bit harsh though.

yeah the black fronted ones were the mark 1 but still awesome speakers - i think just the crossovers were different, better in the veneer fronted ones.

hook em up to an oldschool quad amp or similar (i have a 405 with mine) and they sound lovely. quite power hungry speakers though...

for anyone lookingh for a good 'vibe' speaker that is cheep you can get the celestion 25's very cheep these days and they are all tweeters and bass just like a club sound system. also fwiw the tweeters used in the 25's are the same as the 66's (and the 44's i think) so that is often the cheapest way to get a new tweater. i bought a pair of 25's still in their original boxes for a tenner from friday add - people just see the 70's teak finish and think they are crap and ugly.
