I have a very minor but really annoying problem:

Basically, when I assign the controller to work in Cubase 5, I select "Nanokontrol" or whatever it says, and it works fine.


The only thing, I'm guessing because it's bus-powered or something, is that sometimes my computer (XP) recognizes it as "Nanokontrol 2" (I only have one but have a PadKontrol), which I know is so you can use more than one of the same device on one computer, but it means I have to go and reselect the controller to assign in Cubase every time it does this, which is about half the time. I realize it assigns a higher number each time I plug it in and out, so it means Windows cuts and reapplies the bus power sometimes if it's plugged in from startup.


Anybody know what I should be doing here? I haven't heard of this happening, so I feel like it's me being totally stupid. I know there's an option so that no number appears for the first device you plug in, but that means nothing if it shows up as NanoKontrol 2.

yeah i'm using a non-powered usb hub, but I hardly feel like I'm maxing this out...In my USB slots, I have a soundcard, Oxygen 8 (which is running off AC power), a PadKontrol, and the hub, which just has the NanoKontrol and a basic Microsoft mouse hooked up to it. I know that sounds like a lot, but I feel like compared to harddrives and such, that's really not much in terms of power.

Plus, it never fucks up mid-session or anything, it's just that I'll start up the computer and sometimes it'll work fine and sometimes it'll be mysteriously set to "NanoKontrol2"

XP Service Pack 3...pretty sure the drivers are up to date, as the PadKontrol is pretty new

yea just trying to brainstorm what would cause your usb ports to behave like that...
just seems off somewhere and possibly something OS setting related

k just humor me and go under system>device manager>universal serial bus
and on each of the devices there will be an advanced and/or power tab that you can check bandwidth and if too many mA are being used on your non powered hub
it might just be something to do with that

it says the nanoKontrol is using 100mA, my mouse is using 100mA, and there are two slots not being used...

honestly i think somewhere along the lines you're not exceeding power, but bandwidth and when it tries to initialize all the device at once the nano is getting ignored or retriggered
i've seen it happen a couple times on my setup and the powered hub resolved it to a point

the back of my pc has 6 usb ports, but because of where its situated i use hubs coming from them to the desk, I've had to change whats plugged into which hub numerous times to make sure everything initializes correctly, trial and error tho fraid, can't give you a formulae

yea same it's weird, you'd figure between the mobo makers and os developers with the popularity of usb devices it would be less of a headache

Right now I have the switch on my PadKontrol set to "on" so that it starts up with the computer, but I'll see if turning it on manually after the NanoKontrol changes that at all
