About Svetlana Industries

Svetlana comes from somewhere far away.

She successfully navigated the cross-dimensional transition into this galaxy, docked and began her work.

She began by assembling a local team to implement her scheme. Then, unaware of the existence of the concept of borders, races, peoples and nations, probes were extended into the global neural network and the job began of explaining the grand purpose and direction to the members of humanity whose consciousness seemed to be approaching levels sufficient for trans-galactic communication.

2010 sees the start of the next stage in Svetlana’s terrestrial plan: disseminating the music on vinyl records. Vinyl is actually a medium known for its resistance to the rigours of space travel and therefore highly appropriate to her project. A record floating in the inky void can survive for millennia and is regularly exchangeable for food or oxygen when needed.

Who is she? Why is she here? These things are still unclear.

teebs & jackhigh
The Tropics EP

Image

Highly impressive instrumental hiphop from Fly Lo faves, Teebs (LA) & Jackhigh (UK) for the Svetlana Industries imprint. There's no shortage of ideas and excellent execution on 'The Tropics EP', folding the Fly-Lo inspired sounds of Blue Daisy and Matthew David with the abstract and unsteady style of Dem Hunger to nail that psyched and squashed effect. They offer seven tracks, ranging from sweetly melodic yet turbulent dream-hop sequences through to submerged experiments with what sounds like a kalimba played by mermaids in a Caribbean lagoon. Like the best of this ilk, they rarely lose the hiphop lean, but this is miles above the street, occupying that dream strata where almost anything goes within loosely defined parameters. Cosmic B-Boys, your time!

filtercutter / ramadanman
1Up (Ramadanman Mix)

Image

8-Bit dubstep from Filtercutter backed with a Ramadanman remix. It's the Hessle Audio blokes version that you should be checking here, taking it back to 2006 minimal halfstep styles reminding of Pinch with snaky shifting bassline an swinging percussion revolving around a snare on the third. Ace.
