samples and project bpm/tempo

so i just got a padkontrol over the weekend and started having a go at it by chopping my samples and laying my chops over my drum beats, i then decided to read up on it in the bible and performed a search to get some tips on chopping, main thing i ran into was matching sample to project bpm, this however was being applied to loops not chops, so i applied this to my samples but got the chipmunk effect which to me took away the vibe from the sample, to counter this the only advice i could find was futures mentioning to fit sample to bpm in reaper then use the playback slider to slow down sample again and export, with all that being said do i really need to do that? cant i just hit play and tap along to my drums? any tips/advice is greatly appreciated!btw using reaper and shortcircuit

ah no
like often when say i'm chopping a breakbeat for say a dnb tune i'll sample it at -8 on my turntable so it's easier to pick out the points for precision chopping then pitch back up
hope that's what you meant

@DH
for drums i do pitch them up or down depends on their tempo and project (house or dnb), i was mainly referring to vocal snippets from songs and instrument riffs like string arrangements and the like
@project ex and symmsounds
thats what i was going with at first and i guess i will still do, is taht what you guys do?

ah vox, tends to be chop up the og pitch phrasings to fit, pitch correction (those lovely algorithms and programs that maintain bpm but let you mess with pitch), or just pitch whcih can result in chipmunk or ketamine crawl sounds
all what you're after
ie got asked to do a remix of mike posner - please don't go through connections direct from og producer, who wants it like a dubstep/bro feel, but the tune is around 120 bpm range, so i have one remix version at og tempo, another where i chopped up the phrasing to fit 138. it's a bit of work, but it's how to do it if you want og pitch and feel

yeah sometimes i stretch shit, other times i leave it in the original tempo. It really comes down to what you think sounds good with the track, experimenting along the way

chopping the individual words or phrases to fit tempo you're working with, but maintaining original pitch
