It's not THAT annoying, but still, when has 175bpm ever been a part of the definition of dubstep?

People have been calling it "Drumstep." I don't know what to call it, but you're right it's closer to DnB than dubstep.

Beatport is not widely known for defining genre's. They group a LOT of electro bands like Crookers and The Bloody Beetroots and almost the entire French electro scene into the same genre "Indie Dance." Don't expect them to know the difference between dubstep and "1/2 step 175bpm DnB."

Well I assumed the first few like "Bass Head" by Bassnectar were just innocent mistakes.

Somebody quickly change wikipedia: "Dubstep is usually at 175bpm, but can sometimes dip as low as 140".

Also they're second place in caring less about an artist's hungry mouth with iTunes in a strong lead.

The guys on Ganja (Hypes Label) were doing this long before it took off, that was the first instance I had heard of it, except perhaps Bassnectar who in my opinion were always way ahead of the game.

When we first started mixing one of the first tunes we bought was Bassnectar - Everybody, im talking years and years ago, and its funny to see that they were pushing this so long ago.

But yea, Beatport need to fix up, I dont know if its down to limitations on their system but the place needs a serious overhaul.
Fuck Flash sites basically, its not big, its not clever and only really works for one shot quick promotions of media, not a dedicated site offering services IMO.

Lets not do the whole "Who did half-step first" argument. I think most people doing it these days are waste compared to Amit, who has been doing it forever...

etc. etc.

itunes is different in the sense that they focus on all genre's, the full spectrum, and they have a certain amount of structure in place to weed out the bullshit, and make it harder for you to flood their system with it. beatport started out properly, and turned into a fucking nightmare, because there's absolutely no quality control whatsoever. they are now the mcdonalds of shitty dancemusic. as long as idiots keep paying for mediocrity, they'll have the burgers warm and ready.

forget dubstep for a moment. just go listen to their house section. its a joke.

Using your example, which vendor do you feel does a better job at offering quality house music?

i dont get why people group Bassnectar in with dubstep. His music cant really be placed into a single bass music sub- genre. Although he is releasing more tracks around 140 nowadays, anyone who has listened to his earlier music will know that he is genre defying. the man is simply a master of bass
