im pretty new to the forum and producing and instead of searching and searching i thought ide ask.. wat are the best note ranges or frequencies to work with when making a bass line? i guess my real question is how low is too low or how high is too high of a frequency to still sound good in subs?

Position it until your Sub is banging to shits.

That's what I do..

How do you think other people discovered which frequencies to use? They kept trying until their Sub banged to shits.

Well you're going to have a Sub and a bassline anyway.

Make things easy for getting started have the sub until as they say the SubWoofer is having a coughing fit.

Then the bassline be a bit higher so as to not conflict with said sub.

Last thing you want is conflicting noises, clarity of the track is dampened severely.

Hope this helps! :6:

There is no best, try to aim for something that both large and small systems can cope with though, like, I like to layer up an 808 with a nice upright bass sample so you get the best of both worlds, something real low and something just low enough...

Theres no golden rule though mang.

this actually helps out alot, thanks.. esp working with e f g cuz i noticed once u start goin down towards c it starts getting a little too low for even my 15s to handle.. and the handle down to 25 hz.. but i dont really have much sub when producing except for wats in my head phones.. my mixing technique ussually goes mix - format - put on ipod - listen at full volume in my truck stereo with 2 15" 1000 watt subs :4: then i ussually end up repeating that process till it sounds right, but its a hassle.. its nice to know a range to start off with and already know where the bass will hit the hardest

it doesn't really matter...you could have a bass note on like c3 if you had your octaves in your synths turned down more than usual.

IMO I really think it depends on the sound that you are using. I've noticed from time to time that A really off sound can sound fantastic by just finding the right note to use it in.
