Protools 9

So, excuse me if there is a thread on this topic, but I did a search, and didn't really see anything, probably on the first page right below this one. lolz

But uh, protools 9 is out, and they've dropped their silly dedicated hardware thing.

I've been working with way more audio than I used to. I used to have like everything in midi.

I'm totally the opposite nowadays, if I do something in midi, I'll render it down almost immediately, and just start working with the audio... As has always been the case, audio in flstudio sucks a dick, though it is getting much better at sucking it, it's still got braces.

This leads me to the thought that maybe something like pro tools 9 might actually have features that are useful for me, and my newly emerging workflow.

I'm interested to hear some thoughts on this new (major) development in pro tools.

So maybe this is my answer? Pro Tools with their history of snobbery and extremely expensive hardware donglery have totally alienated younger producers. -q-

.... all it would take is Rusko to say he uses it to have a forum full of questions, "how to do turn pro tools on." (Bad analogy, who is Rusko?)

if your working with just audio, pro tools is definitly the route to go!
when 8 came out I went through a phase where I was not only doing post work in it but also all my music production (with the newly implemented midi) and I gotta say, I never had any real problems with it. I also like the midi velocity editing in protools more so than logic (being able to see different instrument tracks midi notes all at once with color coded midi notes corresponding to which track, not velocity like in logic). after a few months tho I came to my senses and realized midi/creation is easier with logic, while audio is easier in pro tools... interested to hear what all the fuss is about with this new version

I would of thought protools would be better if you had a lot of recording to do, not sure if it's worth it just for the audio features. Then again I've only scraped the surface with protools so I don't know. I would definitely reccomend Cubase for audio though even if it's just Cubase LE, always used Cubase as a sidekick to FL and it hasn't failed me so far.

When it comes to audio I found even reaper had it better than FL. Protools seems like the goto for a lot of people when it comes to this sort of thing, so it's gotta be doing something right. I would say before hopping on the protools dick, maybe try out a couple others and see how they do with audio recording and stuff. You might find that another program could possibly work better for your own workflow. If only Image-Line would get on the ball and put some time into how it handles audio.

Not sure all the specifics w/ v9...

BUT what I do know is that when I first started recording music I had protools AND the stupid dedicated hardware but once I figured out that logic comes with a shit ton of plugs and instruments (which are pretty damn nice imo) I immediately made the switch. Protools on the other hand expected you to pay extra for a bundle of all that stuff, not sure if that's still the case

if protools did midi well, then it would be sick for producing. you can work so quickly in protools, just not for midi.

It means that they will amalgamate in the not to distant future!

Avid is taking over all the major players, becoming the Voltron of the audio world!

Have you noticed all the changes in Logic pro 9.... they are bridging the gap to Pro tools!

Its a rumour going around in the Industry & it makes alot of sense ah!

I don't know about this whole Logic and Pro Tools coming into one. I would shit my pants in unhappiness, Logic is the shit, you can do everything with Logic that Pro Tools can do. But Pro Tools definitely has a smoother workflow for recording and editing audio I feel. Still don't know why it became industry standard when you had to spend at least $10K to get a very basic setup, when you could have just bought a bad ass Mac desktop and Logic and done all the same shit. An I do post audio in Nashville, and have heard nothing about the two companies combining, maybe its true maybe its not. But I sure as hell hope its not true.
