how good are logic's native plugins?

currently on cubase using a lot of 3rd party ones. a friend of mine has been trying to convince me to take the plunge, and one of the main reasons he's given me is that the quality of the native plugs is really incredible and they're super usable.

what do you guys think?

they are fantastic

to be fair though, if you're happy with Cubase and your third-party plugins do the job, it might not be a big enough difference to really be worth it

ask someone like depone or something he knows a lot about logic or you can go in the Logic Q&A thread to get some info in there

they are quality, I can assure you.
Lots of synths that will give you any sound you're looking for, ES2 especially.
EXS24 sampler is great and simple
Loads of effects.

Then again it depends on exactly what you're looking for in plugins to decide if its worth the money

I'm sorry, but plugin quality is NOT a reason to change DAWs, especially if you're mostly using 3rd party plugins.

If you like the way Cubase works, stick with it.

I only own PSP nitro as a third party effect plug in. I use Logic's own for everything else. They are sweet. Have never felt the need to buy any others. only got nitro coz it was £15.

Do own third party synths tho. Just because im greedy. seriously tho no need for seperate Sampler/EQ/Compressor/Effects

with Logic pro you also start off with a MASSIVE samplebank with quite a few good samples.

Are you joking???? Why wouldn't having better quality plugins and synths be a selling point???

Logics effects and things like compressors and distortions are second to none. Really fantastic synths too. From instrument modelling, to retro monophonic Phunk. You got it covered.

Cant recommend it enough. For the synths and effects it comes with are worth the price tag alone imo.

space designer, delay designer and the standard comp on FET (drums) setting are just wins

theres plus and minus with every daw

all about the quality of what you put in to the daw first ..sound wise

mac is slowly catching up with pc on the plugin side as in 3rd party

i really like the ssl 4000 plugins for analog emulation

but if your gunna get logic for mac pro id suggest spending a bit extra and getting uad plugs.

an alternative to logic would be running presonus which ive had a go on and i quite like it.

I use ableton myself, and i have to admit, as much as ableton owns. it's native plugins are so wank compared to logic's ones....i mean compare ableton's autofilter to logics .... it's actually a joke. Plus the bass amps on logic faar outdo the bass setting on the new amp plugin for ableton.

HAVING SAID THAT THOUGH ......

i would never leave ableton for logic, for the simple reason being i feel i can do what i want to do in ableton with much ease (and i still have more to explore ... i dont even use instrument racks etc) and while the native plugins do suck ass, they do the job well enough and third party plugins more than make up for it anyways. Plus the fact that i'd have to shell out another £800 for an imac LOL. I think if you're comfortable with your DAW and you know it inside and out .... why bother changing and spending bare p for some better stock plugins?

Really quite good imo. es2 is taking me a while to wrap my head around though, the fucking wheel thing confuses me.

OP:

go into an apple store and fine a macpro or what ever computer you like. some of them have logic studio (pro including) installed. punch the high school kids in the face that are checking their myspace and start playing with logic. i did that last week. started with ableton, got bored one day and went to the apple store, applied for credit, got approved, played with logic, loved it, purchased it and came home.

im not trying to tell you logic is better beceuase i use them both via rewire but go check it out for your self.

There amazing.... But its like all the loops that come free with logic.... Yeah there cool to have for a beginner.... But it isnt gonna be the sound your producing anyway.... Stick with what you got.

They're top-notch. I'd feel sorry for Waves these days; logic's compressor and EQ both tear the waves rennaisance line to shreds.

if you can't write a professional-sounding EDM tune w/ the es2, ultrabeat, compressor, EQ, space designer and delay designer...

then the problem ain't the plug ins.

it's about workflow imo. I find logic's workflow (after having worked with it since I started), to be a little frustrating at times - I find ableton's far easier to work with. I wasn't disputing the quality of the plugins - logic's EQ plugins are FAR better than live's. But - I do not think it is a good reason to switch DAWs.

Some are good, some are not so good. It comes with a lot so naturally it depends on what you need/like to do. I still use external plugins for pretty much all my instruments including sampler because the stuff that other external plugins can do is better. All the effects in Logic are pretty boss though, and really straight forward for the most part in my opinion.

Space Designer ftw

thanks for all the replies!

is the workflow massively different from, say, cubase 5? i'm pretty familiar with every other DAW except for logic at this point.

also it just seems like logic is quickly becoming the "industry standard" in a lot of ways for EDM. i feel like there has to be a pretty good reason behind that.

jack sparrow: UAD plugs are the ones that use their own special soundcard right? how are those?

uad utilise the internal card yes but they are awesome, really awesome sounding.

if your running imac i suggest the ssl duende or the ssl4000 series they utilise the firewire socket on imac

all id say is try them at a dealer, everyone has own opinions when it comes to plugins and fx processors.

different products have different character for mixes.

im really feeling the uad spl stuff recently, transient designer is great.

the thing im most looking forward to is the studer tape machine emulator...so so sick.

Something good like the compressor for the sidechain it's work great for me, exs24 is cool i love the tapedelay and the stereo delay too, the overdrive and the bitcruscer smash in good way, other thing sucks like the reverbs (exept for the spacedesigner) sounds all like a metal room i don't like, but some prod use that like alix perez too
