"Population decline can refer to the decline in population of any organism, but this article refers to population decline in humans. It is a term usually used to describe any great reduction in a human population.[1] It can be used to refer to longterm demographic trends, as in urban decay or rural flight, but it is also commonly employed to describe large reductions in population due to violence, disease, or other catastrophes.[2]
Sometimes known as depopulation, population decline is the reduction over time in a region's census. It can be caused for several reasons; notable ones include sub-replacement fertility (along with limited immigration), heavy emigration, disease, famine, and war. History is replete with examples of large scale depopulations. Many wars, for example, have been accompanied by significant depopulations. Prior to the 20th century, population decline was mostly observed due to disease, starvation and/or emigration. The Black Death in Europe, the arrival of Old World diseases to the Americas, the tsetse fly invasion of the Waterberg Massif in South Africa, and the Great Irish Famine have all caused sizable population declines. In modern times, the AIDS epidemic has caused declines in the population of some African countries. Less frequently, population declines are caused by genocide or mass execution; for example, in the 1970s, the population of Cambodia underwent a period of decline due to wide-scale executions by the Khmer Rouge.
During the Age of Imperialism, Europeans migrating to new continents brought with them not only devastating new means of waging warfare but also, often inadvertently, infectious diseases such as smallpox to which indigenous peoples had no resistance. These factors, particularly the latter, sometimes had a devastating impact on the indigenous inhabitants."
My own personal "theory" on Depopulation is that there are to many people on this planet, there is limited resources our race cannot live in the next 40 or 50 years. There is over 6.5 billion humans on this planet and it is said that our race will be double that amount in a matter of 50 years or maybe less. There isn't any other planet that can sustain life or at least (Gliese 581) a solar system that is close enough to actually travel to, to obtain the necessary resources to live. Our race will either kill itself or God will come down and end the world. Of course, that is just my opinion but it has to happen for our race to live. Humans must die lolz.

I don't wish for anyone to commit suicide, honestly. But all I can think is 'if you want people to die so much, why not start with yourself?' every time someones mentions how the Earth would be better off without humans (which itself is a fallacy considering that if all humans are gone, there would be no one left to judge whether something is 'good' or 'bad' anyway).
Still, this isn't meant to offend anyone and I don't wish it upon anyone. It's just the thought that crosses my mind.

i think we will be able to feed some of our race but not all of it. remember we are getting to the point of cloning cows etc, which will go some way towards aleviating this.
but i do think that through technology and healthcare advances the human race is now growing at an unsustainable rate... but i think there is a lot of poverty in the world, and it will be these people who start to starve first. cant see them benefiting from cloning advances realistically. you may be able to clone a cow but you still have to look after it... so the rich people will still be able to eat but i reckon the poor will be unaffected

it's not a actual lack of food that will be the major problem, but a shortage of oil.
oil is such an important resource, its mind boggling how much our society depends on it, it is literally the blood of western society.
every step of the food production process depends on it, from the obvious like transport, to things like packaging, fertilisers and pesticides.
alot of the wars fought in the twentieth century have been shaped around control of oil, not actually ideological battles (although obvs that was a factor)
i didnt mean the whole human race will starve, but i think a great deal will, especially with climate factored in, floods and droughts across large parts of the world have huge impact.
the western world will come off relatively ok i hope, we seem to be fairly good at exploitation. worst case scenario is the collapse of civilization as we know it.

yeah oil will be a bigger problem first youre right.
but i reckon collapse of the oil trade would be a good thing personally. if society could not adapt quick enough (which i dont think it will) it would break down. we would essentially have to start from scratch, on a more level playing field. shit would get very real very quick.

yeah for sure, im quite happy i was born at this point in time, its gonna be interesting to see how humanity copes with this one.
i'm sure that whoevers in control, be it government or otherwise will have realised whats ahead, and planned accordingly. they wont be blind to these issues, of that im sure.
i think we'll see an increasing level of social discontent and disorder as people realise this over the next few decades, and yeah, even near total anarchy. there will be plenty of oppurtunity for resourceful people if we do have to start from scratch, and yes, shit would get really real. no more diversions like reality (lol) TV shows when people are actually having to cooperate to survive. (if it ever reaches that level)

well, Hemp is the most resourceful plant in the world. It can be used for clothing, medicine, & most importantly OIL.
