For me, a lot of the mystique of my favourite artists and songs has been taken out by learning how to produce.

I've only been seriously into it these last 3 or 4 months, and naturally the first thing I wanted to do was to try and recreate some of my favourite sounds and tunes. So I made the reese bass off'f Lion VIP and was very happy with it, made a nice tune with it in. However the next time I listened to the song it just didn't have the same feeling as when I first heard it, with no idea how any of the noises were made.

So, in a bid to keep my record collection as special, I've taken to producing house music, which I almost never listen to, anyone else feel like this?

I can turn 'it' on and off at will.

Definitely changed my way of listening to music, always sorta listening to the drums, generally wondering how this is made how he got this effect on that what kind of automation is being used and alot of craazy things go through my head but i definitely still appreciate the tracks anyways, usually when i try to remake some stuff i heard in tracks i usually find that i appreciated the use of that sound in the particular track alot more from knowing how its made and i give mad respects to the producers for getting there before me

If anything I appreciate the music I love even more. Being able to guesstimate how a sound was made doesn't take the magic out of it...the magic is in how it's used. Mimosa's tracks continue to blow my mind.

i don't see how you can really call yourself a producer if it doesn't change the way you listen to music at all.

personally, i often get so distracted in picking apart the music that I don't even get a chance to enjoy it. with better music, this happens less since I get more caught up in the music and don't have a chance to analyze it.

I think I definitely listen more intensely and am far more analytical when listening now, but for me it doesn't take away from my ability to still get chills and really enjoy a song while doing so. Some times i just listen and let the music take me in.... like when out at a live show dancing, i let every sound move me in its own way, following the energy of the track and moving to the beat. Knowing about structure and when things will happen in a song makes it far easier to create freestyle motion on time and in sync with the tracks as they are played. And no i don't just wiggle around doing some crazy looking liquid lol... I dance..... Hard!

I have 3 heads, im still learning to switch between them at will, but im getting their.

1. Normal guy head. This head just gets down with the music.
2. Producer head. This head picks every thing apart, and thinks about eq's a lot.
3. Writer/musician head. This head always thinks of alternative riffs, and some time picks up a casio keyboard, or guitar if one is near by, and jams along.

Well the production head will be to busy thinking about how to eq a wobble bass, but the other 2 will be happy to.

happens to me all the time. probably the most direct way it has changed how i listen to music.

Since I've recently started trying to produce it's really enhanced the way I listen. I don't think it's a bad thing at all, I probably appreciate tracks even more because of it.

i can switch it off too. Even the most repetive and easy-to-make sounds get me going. It just has to be a catchy tone.

No. But DJing makes you realize how important a good, logical, equal-number-of-bars Intro is to making your tunes, as opposed to trying to be all “artsy” and “avant-gard” with disregard for structure if you plan on having your tunes played out. If you’re going for an James Blake, Squarepusher, Burial sound, fine, but if you’re going for a dancefloor smasher you really do need to make that tune DJ friendly.

I'd say whenever you make the transition from being purely a listener to someone who writes music, it changes your view.
It's like anything. Once you've been behind the scenes so to speak, you've got the technical knowledge to understand it to a greater degree I suppose...
