Using a VST amp as a preamp for timecodes

Is this at all possible?

I've got a budget timecode setup using an american audio versaport, and it works fine but the output volume is significantly lower than if im using standard vinyl, so reckon i need some kind of preamp.

I don't know much about vst's, but would it be possible to somehow use a vst pre amp from virtual dj to the versaport or am i being an idiot?

I can't remember why but it's normal that digital files are quieter than vinyls.

What exactly is quiet? The audio output from your DJ software or the timecode input?

If it's the latter, just turn it up. Don't run it through a guitar amp simulator!

yeah its the latter, only problem is i have to turn the side playing vinyl right down as well cos the gain on the timecode side maxes out before it's loud enough.
and when i turn up the gain on the internal virtual dj ui, it just starts clipping and distorting straight away.
sounds like vst's aren't an option though.
any other ideas?

Do you mean "the track coming from virtual DJ is really quiet, whereas tracks directly from vinyl are really loud"?

Check the back of your Mixer, it is on 'Line' or 'phono' It should be on Line.

It'll be the output level from whatever interface you're using. The Rane SL3 is the closest I've tried to the volume output of vinyl.

The problem sounds like its with the output, not with the file that's being outputted. VSTs won't help, as you will only be increasing the volume of the file being outputted, which will again lead to limiting and distorting.
