sending demos to labels which use "naughty" plugs..

Post by genderM » Sat Jan 08, 2011 11:05 pm

my friend was moaning the other day about how he wants to submit a bunch of demos to labels but is afraid to because all the plugins which supposedly "make his sound unique" were obtained without paying for them. i told him it was a bad idea to send tracks which use pirated software in any form.

thoughts on this? what do you do when you rely on a plugin to create a unique sound but cant be arsed to shell out hundreds of dollars for the beast

well for one, you shouldnt talk about it nor should you put his business on blast like that. you sound like a narc to be honest even though its not right to use pirated software in the first place.

No. Using cracked software is worst than midget porn, because midget porn is not breaking the law.

I used freeware and then when I had enough money I shelled out the hundreds of quid for the software.

Man up.

personally if the tunes are good who gives a fuck, i'm doubting the labels do
it's when people feel the need to ask for tutorials or why their pirated software doesn't work because they're too stupid to steal and get away with it or know where to ask that irks me
ffs some of my fav dnb producers and such had etchings in some of their 12" like big ups h2o
if you can afford it(or reasonably save for it by skipping some unnecessary things for a bit like eating out, drinking, drugs etc), use it a shitload, think it's a great plugin and don't buy it... you need to reevaluate your moral compass

if you can afford to buy it then i guess you should, its usually worth it. personally i earn £50 a week and im about to go to uni, only just managed to buy a macbook, so you can guess what kind of software im running.

Definitely. I dunno why people bother though. I can understand with DAWs because the trials are always shit or non existant and it's risky to spend so much money on something you might not end up using much so pirating it on a trial basis just until you know if you want to buy it is ok but when it comes to synths/effects though...I just don't see why you would. I mean I have Reason, Record, Ableton 8 and Alchemy all legit on my computer but I still use a lot of freeware stuff in my tracks because it's just so good 0.o

If I can get a freeware Plugin that does the exact same change I want, I'll use it.

No point wasting money if you've got the know how in the end, need it for more gigs and hardware! :6:

There is no way to know from a mixdown what was used to produce a song except for the cracked version of HAM vst which contains alpaca.worm.32 that infects computers through shared audio files and causes animal penises to pop up on the screens of infected individuals. Other cracked VSTs may or may not contain alpaca.worm.32.
