Producers label your tracks??

Post by dj_donga » Fri Jan 21, 2011 10:03 am

as someone affiliated with a label i get a fair amount of demos
i really think producers should take the time to label every individual MP3 they send out (not just the zip or folder) with (at least) their name
and a title too preferably
it's just recently i've seen the odd tracklist, or IDs being requested in chats etc where the DJ has admitted he doesn't know or remember anything about who the track came from!! (btw i'm not talking about deliberately uncredited re-fixes or intentionally secret dubs)
this just dont sit comfortably with me so thought i'd mention

Agreed , the irony being that the most interesting one tend to have zero information on them.

I've been doing this for a minute, and I've seen years of people failing to tag mp3s and missing out on serious opportunities. It's gotten really, really bad recently. If you are serious about your tracks: artist name, track name, contact info is standard. Most people (not me) load a bunch of tracks to their iTunes and if your track is not tagged, it's pretty much like you've never sent the mp3 to begin with.

Not a label, but as a mastering engineer, I master 90% songs I don't even know the artist of, I'd say 50% I don't know the name of label even!

I'd go mad if I didn't have all my tunes properly labelled for my own use! :corntard:

Are we talking about the file name or the ID3 tags or whatever that itunes uses? I guess doing both to be safe is the best option....
