Cubase question, I'm fed up.
Hi guys, first post here, wondering if any of you could help me. I can't get my headphones to work in Cubase, but they seem to work everywhere else. In fact, in the VST Connections window, it seems to appear that Cubase cannot even detect the headphones as being installed. I've tried everything and I don't know what to do at this point, because the ability to use the headphones while I'm working is somewhat of a dealbreaker for me, for personal reasons. The headphones aren't connected through your standard jack that plugs straight into your soundcard, it's a USB device that I have plugged into a USB dock, I don't know if that matters but I'm trying to provide all the information I have. Cubase can only see one soundcard/driver which is the ASIO4ALL Full Duplex. If this problem persists I will need to look for another DAW that I can run on PC, so my finally question is what are some viable alternatives to Cubase? I am aware of Reason and FL Studio and wish to use neither. Thanks for any help you may be able to give me!

yeaahhh those usb headphones more than likely don't have asio let alone direct x drivers with wrappers that will work in any daw is my guess
they're meant for skype/teamspeak and gaming, not as an all in one usb audio interface and monitoring solution
if you have the hundreds of dollars to shell out on cubase, buy a decent interface and pair of cans or monitors

^^ Agreed
What's your budget for upgrading?

It's probably cracked. No way that anybody would spend $400-$500 on a DAW and then give up or switch to another DAW because his USB headphones didn't work.
Why not just use different headphones???

It's not cracked the answer is pretty simple actually, I'm dead broke after buying Cubase. I'm a college student, not a millionaire, I bought Cubase because it provided an all-in-solution and was recommended from various sources I trust. So I take it from the other two posts that my USB headphones will not work with any DAW? I may just have to buy a new set of headphones then, would rather not as I'd like to be spared the expense, but monitors are a no go as I have room mates.. Thanks for the help.

If you want your headphones to work through your soundcard, you'll need to get a pair that plugs into the soundcard.

Thank you for your help.

Apologies for doubting you - DSF gets a ton of people coming on here asking for help with cracked software and thats not tolerated around hereOquirrh wrote:It's not cracked the answer is pretty simple actually, I'm dead broke after buying Cubase. Yeah you will likely need to switch to regular headphones in order to get this work (like most DAWs), and there are plenty that will work well for producing. Sennheisers may be a good start.

Yeah I have a crappy pair of Sennheisers I use for when the missus and kids are in bed...
Probably worth pointing out though, that although those only cost me £20 odd, they are tantamount to fucking useless. Unless you go large on a pair of quality headphones, you aren't going to get anywhere near an accurate representation of what you are actually producing. When I am forced to use them, I paint in broad strokes so to speak i.e. detail is completely out of the question. I always end up changing a load of stuff once I have fired the monitors back up and can actually hear what is going on properly.
Moral of the story is... headphones will only get you so far. You will need monitors, or at least access to some monitors, in order to get the best of our your production.

Re: Cubase question, I'm fed up.
If the headphones don't come with a dedicated ASIO driver, then Cubase won't see them. They probably come witha generic windows driver, but that's no good to Cubase.
Get ASIO4ALL and see if you can make that work. Cubase can see that, and it should be able to route sound to your headphones.

Re: Cubase question, I'm fed up.
Installing the ASIO4ALL drivers seemed to do the trick so I'll just be using that until I can afford a more heavy-duty set of cans. Thanks Macc for the tip.
