Lately Ive been hearing MCs saying this during a mix ("Pull it!"). Whoever is spinning usually stops the track and starts it from the beginning or skips to the next track. What is this and what does it mean?!

means the track was massive, or it got everyone real hype and its called a rewind.. its common in dubstep and other genres, its just simply hearing the massive drop or basslines again from the top.

Pull-ups are also often actually needed for crowd-control.

It's a tradition amongst DJ's that's unacceptable in a lot of countries. It tends to come with UK genres though.
I'm glad most of the big English dubstep dj's almost never do it at big partys down here because the crowd would just stand and gaze.

Most Americans I talk to hate rewinds; I don't mind them too much. Some songs gotta get PULLED THE FUCK BACK

Lol you should give them an N-type Rinse show recording and watch them rage as he pulls every track back

Couple of mates of mine (Chaos in the CBD who are producing with french fries at the mo) come from the tech house scene and started djing at dubstep crossover gigs. Had their first gig with an MC and were wondering why he was telling them to pull it... had to explain to them... they thought the MC was telling them their track was shit

Ehhhhh, not wanting to start some argy, but I'm sure this was a Jamaican thing... Jungle music appropriated many traditions from reggae soundsystem culture (calling tracks dubplates, reeeeewinds, MCs, and of course the obvious music samples). This been going on over here for so long I can see why it might seem like a UK thing, but it's all from reggae originally.
Please to correct if I'm totally wrong on this though

love N-type wheeling up every track. when he talks about not pulling tracks up anymore cos he'll get slated on DSF was joke.
Seen him wheel Pass Me By and the crowd went off.

No one does it so people are surprised. Also the music stops so that's not really appreciated most of the time.

I only know a lot of drum n bass and dubstep DJ's do it. Never heard a reggae dj set, but you might be right.
