I'm trying to get nice snare hit, for a dark dark piece I'm writing.
All of my snare samples sound way too bright, so I tried using my Drummaxx, but I still couldn't get anything to work.
How do you guys get your dark snare hits?

eq out some of the high end. pitch up a kick. lots of short verb.

I find that snares i create for my tunes are usually built from multiple clap samples, and maybe one or two snare samples. So i recommend layering the two to get the sound you want. Add reverb and other fx for further processing to get that dark sound, or whatever sound you're trying to create.

not sure what you mean by dark? for more moody tunes I prefer to use a rim shot or just the attack of a nice snare sample (see sig tune).
Have you got an example of a "dark" snare?
