I'm New and need help.

Hey I'm completely new to dubstepforum and I'm really interested in making some dubstep. I downloaded a few trial programs like FL Studio 9 and I'm having trouble learning the programs. I open it up and look at it and just get a headache. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I honestly don't even know what a MIDI Controller is or what it does. Do you have to have it to run the programs or what? I am desperately hopeless.

If you have no clue at all lookup some beginner YouTube videos, or look at the dub step bible in the stickies threads. It's titled 'want to make dub step? Start here!' or something like that. It covers all the basic stuff and gets into some advanced technics. Also, don't expect to be pumping out tunes anytime soon. Just keep up with it and expand your knowledge and eventually you'll be all set.

Read the bible, if you're using flstudio, read the flstudio thread. There are a lot of links to tutorials and wat not in there. Just understand that you are entering a world that is likely to double the sum total of all the knowledge you've gained in your entire life, up until this point. Think on that for a second. Do you want to do that to your mind?

Well, yes. The kind of dubstep I want to make is types like Excision, Downlink, and Datsik. All I listen to is dubstep, all I seem capable of thinking about is dubstep, and all I want to do is make dubstep. Trust me, if I fill my mind with knowledge on how to make dubstep thats just fine. Oh and I am going to be selling my bike. Any must haves I should get that every dubstep producer needs?

It's all I have to sell. I'm sorry if what I'm selling does not meet your standards but I'ts all I have. Plus I turn 15 in May so I will be able to get a job.

It's cool that you want to start making music
Read the threads at the top
and never ever ask how to make Excision or Datsik sounds (everyone will hate you)
Good luck
Youtube is your friend
It takes a long time to even make something remotely decent and that will still suck for a long time

Just having a laugh little dood. You really don't need to sell or buy anything to get started. Get that mentality out of your head cause some people are in the game 20 years, and they still can't get past that idea. There is a lot of freeware out there that will get you a long way beyond your current ability level. Do the research. I know you're hearing sounds, and they are resonating with your soul right now. But if you want to do this, you're going to have to just chill a little bit and learn the basics first. Read the bible, read the fl thread. Do some of the tutorials, then ask some questions.

Thanks for helping out. I really appreciate it. I know I'm probably going to get a lot of shit for wanting to be a producer so young but I love dubstep. I can't help it.

Dubstep was invented by a couple of kids like you, so don't trip.
Just start studying.

To learn from scratch, don't open up FL with the mindset of "I'm making dubstep." Go onto youtube and look up a lot of beginner tutorials. Especially Kev Willow; basic but he's quite good at explaining exactly what he's doing. Learn the ins and outs of FL, a few synths THEN become genre specific.

most of the lead guys in dubstep are no older than 26. Some are as young as 20, who are repping in a big way. I believe Skream/Rusko/Benga.etc. all started around the age of 17/18 seriously.

First interview n mix I heard from synkro, its been a while, but at the time they said he was 18... so... yeah... gives op a few years to hone his shit.
