How do you get the time?

Hey,
So I started to get into producing senior year of high school, but then college happened. I have no time. How do you guys do it? Im a computer science major and it's consuming my life. I guess my only option is too stop the partying on the weekends and just sit in my dorm room and produce, because this is the only free time I have. How did the big names find time to produce? Did most of them just not go to college or did they start getting into it after school? This is kinda a pointless thread, but I was just wondering if their are any other college students out there living my struggle.
peace.

Started producing around 12-13, going to college this year but doing Music Production.
I got plenty of free time, but it's more to the fact if you find it more important than drinking and partying, then you'll advance much faster.
Try it at least and see how much you learn in one weekend.

Since when did you have to choose between music and drinking? My beats are all unquantized and beautiful when I'm hammered.

In college I took class 4 days a week 8 am - 5pm, and had a couple of regular incidental classes on friday. I had 3 classes per quarter that required 12 hours of lab work a week, each, outside of class.
I worked between 20 - 35 hours a week in a fucking kitchen.
I found a way to get liver and brain destroyingly smashed at least 3 times a week and chased pussy like it was, well, pussy,
AND still pulled off 20 hours of band practice a week.
Life is there to be consumed, man, fucking eat it up.

I work 60hr weeks, go to the gym every other day, commute for 2hrs every day and still find time to get at least an hour of production time in every evening. If you want it enough and can discipline yourself, you'll make time.

i drink alot sometimes when producing

. also at the weekends having some buddies over and u can party & produce at the same time

maybe even with them if theyr into it
but really its important to just do lots of other stuff besides producing.. op u will find the time for producing, wake up early on weekends, spend the afternoons/evenings producing when ur just at home not doing anything in particular anyway..

Just carve an hour a so out every day or two. Say when you're takin a break from coding. You'll gradually be able to build a decent tune while having fresh ears for it every day.

I rush all my course/schoolwork. That's if I even bother doing it these days. Spend at least 5 hours a day making tunes. Rarely go out now-a-days.
I expect to be forever alone...

ahhh... I see what you did there!
All trolling aside, he had a decent point. Sometimes removing yourself from the world helps you concentrate and discover much more.
Hence why people work on music at ridiculous hours into the night because they know they can't really bug people constantly.
(Besides neighbours and pets obviously)

Kaori's thread about not being a bitch contained the advice of making time for production, so you get into a routine.

I've never had to try to find the time, as it has always been a priority... A few years back I was working 60-70 hours a week, and I still worked on my tracks 4 or 5 hours every day.
Now I am married with 2 kids - plus I teach 15 hours a week, practice cello 15-20 hours a week, and make sure I work on tracks (or freelance music work) for at least another 15-30 hours a week.
It's just a central part to who I am - I don't watch much TV, I don't go out, etc etc. Any minute that isn't with my family or job-related, I am working on music.

Oh yeah - and as Dave Sharmaji pointed out... sleep is the first thing to go.
I usually only snooze for about 4 hours a night.
