Hyperdub slacking with releases

Post by addicted » Mon Feb 07, 2011 11:19 pm

In my opinion not quite what it was a year ago

less offensive thread for the touchy dsfians

there was a point where they were consistently releasing jaw dropping 2 trackers now the quality seems a bit average mostly, up to about ikonikas album and all the releases before that like natty, pro plus and aidys a computer girl

then we started getting shit like the ill blu ep and the new funkystepz one.. the quality of releases is going down

That's not a very specific complaint.

I'm open for discussion on this subject, but yeah a little bit more specificness wouldn't hurt your argument.
Overall, 2010 was a cracking year for HDB in my opinion.
North and Undeniable were great albums in my opinion ('Contact, Love, Want, Have' was a bit of a let down for me but still ranks in the top 20 albums for me). On top of this, DVA, King Midas Sound and Kyle Hall released some killer singles. I'm not too keen on Morgan Zarate's new EP, but we have a Kode9 ft. Spaceape album in the pipes don't we.

I still rate HDB among the top three labels, perhaps no longer at the top spot, but still consistent as ever. What's been your beef with the label then?

also, it's always been an experimental label pushing boundaries. Not everyone is going to dig everything. I don't hold that against kode9

Aye, recent output has put me off a bit too - haven't got any Hyperdub stuff for a while, but I know it's not for want of innovation or vision on Kode9's part - it's simply 'cause it's not my cup of tea.

The new album will certainly be getting my attention though. Haven't disliked a Kode9 tune yet.

i don't think its right to complain, lat year was massive and probably tiring, and now there building up to some more big things (kode 9 + spaceape album in april) so can't really expect a new banger every week.

however that morgan zarate EP was not my thing, was a bit disappointed with that

if i don't like something hyperdub puts out, i usually chalk it up to it being a very "british" sound, and i just don't understand the music. however, i just do not like the morgan zarate ep. i'm not big on the wonky stuff coming out recently.

why are you bitching about one of the greatest record labels in bass music?
sure, release wise they may not be on par so much as they were afew years ago, but even thats a stretch to say its 'shit' (like you did in the other thread).

just because they may not be releasing what YOU want to hear, doesnt mean that the production value has gone down, or that the quality of there music has changed.

im not bitching, im just stating an opinion that they've been slacking with their releases recently. and i used the word shit because i dont like what they've put out at all, also shit is used so much as an adjective its not really that powerful which is why i used it

i do think the quality of music has gone down, have you even heard the new funkystepz ep
not feeling it at all

Should you be surprised that someone would call you out for whining about the label if you choose wording it the way you did? Perhaps.

Can you realistically expect Hyperdub to always meet up to your level of quality you want from them? Perhaps they could if their aim in music was aligned closer to your taste or your view of what Hyperdub should release.

the aim of hyperdub is to release GOOD records and i don't believe their doing that as much as they did in the past

so i came on dsf to say so, whats wrong with that

also i can appreciate when music is good and bad whether or not it adheres to my taste and i just don't think hyperdub is doing it right now

only Burial can save this label now, lets be honest guys

Hyperdub still release records, thefore it IS a reality.

as well as that, Hyperdub have one of the GREATEST back catalogues and i wouldnt have to travel far in this forum to find someone who would kill to get some of those records.

stop slagging the people that formed the fucking music that you listen to...

who gives a fuck what your opinion is really...the only opinion that matters is Kode 9's, it's his record label so he can do/release whatever the fuck he wants to, if you don't like it don't buy it, coming on here slating a respected label is just stupid...

I've also been loving the releases! Ikonikas album was incredible, as was Darkstar's... The boomslang/zharp 12 is still one I pull for all the time :) to me that's just a tiny portion of what I consider to be a fantastic year by hyperdub. Kode said he was going to increase his output and that he was sure that it would lead to some whining on the Internet, but at the end of the day it's his label and his vision. I enjoy it.

Having an opinon is one thing. Having tact and respect is another. However you want to converse is up to you, but there is a huge difference between saying something has moved in a direction that you don't feel and saying that something is "shit"
