I'm having some issues with audio latency. Ableton says my overall latency is 46.3MS on my current project which seems really high. It makes recording midi nearly impossible. I have most of the tracks frozen, and not a lot of compressors going on, etc.
Right now I use a TASCAM US-100 USB audio interface using ASIO4ALL drivers set to 512 buffer (which is the lowest I can go without getting audio dropouts). Why can't I go lower on the buffer?
Would buying a new sound card help this? Is there such a thing as an ASIO native sound card that would eliminate the need for ASIO4ALL?
Or is this purely a CPU issue? I'm using a Core2Duo @ 3ghz. Kind outdated, but I would think it should be sufficient. Any ideas?

Re: Audio Latency and Sound Cards - ASIO
yes the tascam is know for that kind of unplayable latency. asio4all could help sometimes, but native drivers are better as you sayd.
At my opinion, all usb or firewire soundcards are not serious and this at any prices.
A simple pci sound card like the m-audio delta44 work at 1 ms latency here at 44kh and 0.5 at 88.k. for a cheap price.
if you dont have a laptop, try a pci card. if you have a laptop its probably a part of your problem.

Not really sure if I'm answering your question correctly because I'm no genius in the technical side of things but I know I was having problems with audio drop-outs with my NI Audio Kontrol 1 caused by latency issues. All I had to do was update my graphics driver and it works perfectly now.

have same problem before, now its the same if i use a to high resolution, so a decent graphics card is useful to make music.
