New software that splits mp3 files up into solo tracks for each part. Anyone seen this before? The fact that I found out about it from BBC news makes me think that it may have been around but its just passed me by.
EDIT: this thing is kinda cool but I can't see many 'actual' producers using. Mostly gonna be abused by teeny bop skrillex whores ripping brostep off youtube and 'remixing' it :\.

That is what happens when you buy a Mac. I'm off to extract some multi track stems from Mp3s

I've used Melodyne before on a single stereo file of a whole drum kit to split each part of the kit into it's own audio file. Just whack Melodyne over the original file and extract the MIDI, then delete all the notes apart from the kick, that's your kick track done. Then do the same but just keep the snare, then just keep the hi-hat etc. You have a lot of control over what you can do with Melodyne, i've hardly used it though.

Hardly used it??? Man, if I could afford that shit I would be on it ALL the time. Nothing better than using sampled instruments in tracks. Synths are all well and good but I prefer samples any day.
