:?

We're talking early 2003 with 4WD still about garage absorbing breaks & getting dark,
the nascence of dubstep as the younger producers strip it down & up the sub

Soulja: we follow producers playing their own dubplates...we're trying to create a community
Chef: pure dubplates, the freshest beats...like a family...
all the producers come; if you don't you won't get this anywhere else

Benga: I don't think it'll go overground
Hatcha: playing for ourselves
Feline: not about dressing up, just geting into the tunes
Menta: good that it stays underground

I don't see the similarity with what's happening to dubstep now.

I'm hearing sameness not invention
I'm hearing complication not stripping down
I'm seeing the big sell more important than community
I'm hearing even the originals playing to achieve predictable reaction
not to showcase their ideas that might need to be listened to

yeah, some of that sounds contradictory
and I'll admit to trainspotting familiar tunes
but hopefully they are amongst even better tunes
that increasingly hone the best elements of dubstep
by making adventurous forays that sometimes grate
because they need new synaptic connections to be appreciated.

....that's what it's like when artistry is paramount
which isn't the case in the dubstep overground currently.

sd5, you completely missed my point. I should have clarified that I meant the current sounds coming off of the 'nu'um. Not "proper ds" as you like to call it. What I meant is, we are once again at a point where the sound is being moved in all directions and people are calling things by different names... Dubstep, post dubstep, future garage, etc... Surely we can agree that we are at a time where the line has once again become blurred?

that flight into diversity throughout 09/10
has now been swamped by the one mode,
at least in club nights, less so on radio.

i await the night
that places faith in weight
and doesn't rely on dnb/jump-up
for its crescendo

I've heard the DMZ crew, Goth Trad,
skip djs, Benga & Skream do it
& hope Cyrus still can.

could they not have picked a decent file format for christ sake...who the fuck uses m4a ?? Winamp won't even play this for me. Create a .wav or something next time you want people to hear something.

Waste. Sorry, very frustrating I can't hear this.

Makes for interesting listening, especially Benga demonstrating Music 2000 on the Playstation. Interesting to hear Artwork say he "wouldn't help push things overground".

My winamp plays this fine. .M4a can be played on anything over 5.12 I think. I'm on 5.601 and it plays fine for me, file already associated.

swamped by one mode? sucks to be where you're at! our nights over here go off big, with no dnb or jump up required, and no certain sound prevailing. we already stripped the sound down, kode took it as far as you can go with sine... welcome to the present, where it's ONCE AGAIN about the dancefloor, percussion and sub bass. i'm so glad we are back at a place where the drums swing and skip :D
