Getting started?

Yo guys, looking for some good resources to get the right sounds and samples.

I have about a 2000 dollar budget to get a fresh and new start with production.
Right now I've been using Vengeance samples and the lack of diversity is really stunting my production.

Where are my best resources for finding new highest quality samples? Free or Pay.

I need some deep trance sounds
Lots of full varieties of drum kits
and lots of unique sounds.

A vague question I just don't know if it's the right choice to jump into buying Primeloops and being dissapointed.

Also I'm looking to build up a quality library of filters and effects.

Currently using an Akai MPK25 and some entry level KRKs and I'm hoping to make the best use of it.

Its a big problem for me, I just don't know where to start. Cheers if you don't flame me.

Just use the samples you have as a starting point, and massage them into whatever sound you want.

If you want to buy a bunch of sounds, buy an album of music and listen to it. If you want to make sounds, get a synth, samlpler, and some fx to process those sounds.

Get this synth:

Get this sampler:

Use your daw's included fx.

Send me $2000 immediately.

I'm just looking for some suggestions for quality samples, vsts, and synths/effects.

Some with good quick effective interfaces. Quality shit.

I'm using ableton and I would just at least like some more samples to work with. Because I'm finding little tutorials on how to make 'X' sound. I'm just lost when trying to make my own sounds. I'm using Massive for a synth and would like to expand my horizons.

I think you are not catching my drift. Downloading a samplepack is not going to make your production any better. At the very best it will make you sound as good as everyone else. Is that a goal?

The synths, fx and workflow of ableton is all you need to make good music. Just start learning/having fun. It is the only way. Time spent chasing magical samplepacks that will write songs for you is time not spent learning how to make music.

If you want to bring in external audio as a source of inspiration, I HIGHLY recommend sampling off of vinyl. But shit, it really doesn't need to be, youtube is a nearly infinite resource of audio.

Sampling like this, is little different than synthesis, in fact it is harder because of the restraints of the source material.

If you have live, vengeance, and massive, come on dude...

I love working with audio clips lately. Its just a fresh way to add character to your sound. Because of my lack of talent in synthesizing my own sounds I would like to morph around some pre made hits and have a bigger library of samples to work with. Royalty free, instead of ripping 3rd party sites and sampling from other songs. I'll still sample from songs I have, I just would like some resources for quality samples. All I'm asking. I'm not asking to magically get better.

I own several PrimeLoops packs that I like. But I still spend a lot of time playing with those sounds. I never just drag and drop a snare and leave it at that.

@nowaysj: What sampler is that?

Looks like a sampler that's built into Reaper. But I'm not too sure. Of course I would not leave the samples default. I would edit them a lot. I just would like some solid samples for reference.

Primeloops. Go for packs that have mostly drum samples (most of the full descriptions will list the number/kind of sample). I like the drum damage pack...a lot.

Shortcircuit.

OlzaMK, if your synthesis skills are shit, and this is a problem for what you want to achieve, improve your synthesis skills? Don't run from it, cause it will haunt you until you confront it. Sooner rather than later.

I'm sorry bro, but it sounds like you have all the tools you need to make good music, you just need to spend the (difficult) time learning your skills. I say that with all sincerity, and no offense intended.

Computer music mag every month a couple of gig of decent (ish) samples and lots of synths and effects and a DAW. Literally everything you need to make music for £6

My advice? Free ghetto samplepacks are much better than those overcompressed, polished ones you'll pay a ton for. Hunt around for some untreated old breaks and one shots and you'll be set.
