i've recently started having a lot of ideas for techno after listening to some old techno-y dubstep (mainly all the detroit-chordish stuff that was released on hotflush) and have also been toying around with the idea of translating the sonic aesthetic to 170bpm halftime, yesterday i even tried to do a proper techno tune but my problem is those damn kicks.

basically all i want is a kick that doesn't annoy the hell out of me after 5 minutes of listening/working on a tune. i've spent about 3 hours last night trying to make a good sounding techno kick and i've got some pretty nice results using samples and a few fx but every time after a couple of minutes i got so annoyed by it that i wanted to lowpass everything above 100Hz

regarding style... i don't know what this is but this is what made me like techno:

Yeah, pretty much all im doing ATM. Got my x0xb0x (tb303 clone) and a TR909 on the way. Originally started off years ago doiong techno and went off to DnB then dubstep. Not made any dubstep for a while (looks around furtively for the dubstep police).

Got another x0xb0x on the way, and trying to get a live techno/acid PA together with a mate with an RS7000 and a Juno106. Nice live setup. Sick of staring at computers.

An acid tune (oldschool acid house) i wrote for the x0xb0x competition (i won another x0xb0x :corndance: ) is below.

And an acid remix is did is here

i :U: acid again. My first love... :) :6:

Also doing some more techno techno (mills/surgeon/etc)

me - i try to break ''free'' with techno.... producing 24/7 bassheavy music around 140bpm makes my brain fluffy after a while. so i got into producing techno. either it's the minimal side of things, influenced by berlin, or it's house... mroe of a deep house flavor - really feeling the oldschool deep house vibes...

i tried myself in dubtechno - would love to produce that - but it needs time. not easy at all!

All the other producers I know make minimal techno. Not too into it myself, some of it's ok but a lot of it feels a bit lazy. Mate did a remix of a Louis Armstrong track that was SICK though.

i dont really get what techno is, is it rather diverse as is dubstep? cos like i like some things named as techno, like miniluv by martyn, i really like some shed stuff, was watchin egyptrixx live last night and people were sayin that was techno, and i liked that, i like scuba, but like he has the shuffled beats too, aint really listened to his SCB stuff though. some stuff labelled techno though i dont like, i just find it kind of boring, monotonous and like too minimal.

After seeing Phuture 303 at BLOC, they are the single reason why I started writing music to play live. They changed my life

I grew up on Techno... Neil Landstrumm, Tobias Schmidt, Christian Vogel, DJ Rush, Paul Langley, Mark Hawkins.... the list goes on :D

sounds nice! if you could give me some pointers bout my kick problem and general structure (i suppose it's a lot less restrictive than UK bass music but there's gotta be some system behind it) i could imagine doing some shit and if you like it we could collab :h:

currently having some ideas about war drums + tape delay, swelling drones n soundscapes, very little melody just barely holding the pieces together... i've already made a nice loop just the kick giving me headaches :?

You know you can evolve your kick over the length of your track?

Also Bassizm is a pretty quick way to dial in a kick. Nothing that any 2 enveloped synth can do, but it really does make it easy.

Also, my virus b really surprised me the other day, it spit out some serious 303 acid. Really pickley sound.

not sure if it's techno cause i'm not really an expert on it but i've done quite a few 130 bpm tunes that i like to call techno. midland and some of joy orbs' stuff is so inspiring. can't miss this opportunity for shameless self promotion http://soundcloud.com/skuretracks :4:

if i keep evolving it every 5 minutes while producing i'll never finish any track.

I was referring to something else. Evolve it within the track.

been making some old school acid tech of late when bored with breakbeats (??? - not very often).

since it's all done with massive (someday i'd love to get a 303 and a virus) i tend to call it massid.
