Re: Quick question....
i recommend Reason 5. its very intuitive and user friendly and its just a brilliant program. it works on both pc and mac so your good there. and you dont have to worry about buying plugins and all that like with other daws. im very happy with reason 5 and kong (reasons drum machine) is absolutely amazing. also, theres a good amount of support for reason on these forums.
if i were you id download the demos and try them out to see what you like the best. also id watch some videos on the daws your looking at to help make your choice.

Re: Quick question....
FL!
Abelton's probably a bit daunting if you're just getting into it, and Reason is, dare I say, the more restrictive of the lot?
That said, you're gonna have to jump in somewhere and any of 'em will do a grand job

Re: Quick question....
Ableton, Massive, Albino and plenty of time to learn. Grab a book on Ableton there pretty cheap, or YouTube videos, it will get you started. Learn those synths! Avoid wobbles. Avoid Rusko. Just get creative and don't follow no type of sound. Innovate

Re: Quick question....
DON'T LET SOMEONE ELSE TELL YOU WHICH PROGRAM SUITS *YOU*
That's the most important thing to remember here, everyone is simply gonna tell you to use the program that they do (mine is Ableton live since you asked
) but that may not be the best one for you, all of them are equally capable of creating amazing music and each of them have a long list of 'pros' that use them so at the end of the day you want to make sure you pick something that you feel comfortable with and *enjoy* working on!
One piece of advice I will give is don't go buying the intro or lite versions of anything, buy the full program cos the stripped down versions aren't worth bothering with.
Demo-ing software is very important, if I were you I would try out as many as possible before making a decisions, DAWs aren't cheap so you wanna make sure you're putting your money towards something that's gonna get a lot of use.
I can never remember as many as I should do but here are the ones I can think of off the top of my head that you should try out and then make the decision yourself;
Ableton
Reason
FL Studio
Reaper
Renoise
Cubase (Or Nuendo if your super rich)
Logic (mac only)
Samplitude Magix
Presonus Studio One
Sony Acid
Cakewalk Sonar
Then there's stuff like Pro Tools, Soundforge, Audacity, Wavosaur - but they are all geared towards audio and are better for post production IMO.

Re: Quick question....
i wouldnt say avoid imitating at first. its good to learn how artists makes certain sounds. i find it helpful to imitate artists as a beginner. then once you get better at producing you can innovate your own style. but it doesnt just show up out of no where, it takes time and practice.GV1 wrote:Ableton, Massive, Albino and plenty of time to learn. Re: Quick question....
I bought FL Studio because it was less expensive than the other DAWs I was reading about. With out even trying an other demos I bought FL. I recommend trying the demos of the programs in paravrais provided you. They are very different but, they all do the same thing, it's the "work flow" that is different between them. Also, I don't buy this "FL is great for beginners" bit.

Re: Quick question....
like most people have said in here, it really does come down to personal preference.
that being said, however, reason is made to look and act like hardware, which i found to be incredibly useful in learning how things work, since you're literally plugging things in to each other.
oh, and CORNDANCE

Re: Quick question....
really it doesnt matter which daw you use its just about getting comfortable with the one that you do. i personally use ableton but it could be confusing at first if starting out (not as confusing as reason though) try using fl to start because there are loads of tutorials for it and even websites dedicated to it: http://warbeats.com/ , but dont let me tell you what to do
just keep learning the basics of production through any particular daw and eventually you will be able to make a more informed personal decision about which one is right for you.

Re: Quick question....
I agree with the person that says, it doesn't matter what you use as long as you get comfortable with it.... but my problem is...
I want to make very clear sounds, I don't want them to sound cheap and generic... if u know what I mean
)
I am clueless as to how to make any beats or anything, but I am confidant I can figure it out, because I am very motivated to learn, and I have a lot of ideas in my head.
I just want some advice as to which program is worth spending the money for....
I don't want to spend $500.00 on a program when I can get something kinda better or similar for a little bit more or a little bit less...
I don't really want to "imitate" other artists, I just want to learn how to use the program first.. once I learn how to , I have my own idea's in my head........
I'm just trying to get this thing started....
I don't know which program is the "whole package"
If anyone wants to help me that would be MUCH appreciated .

Re: Quick question....
the tools don't matter if you have no clue what you're doing
there is no shortcut to clean sound or instant quality
find whatever suits your workflow and buy it and learn to crawl then walk before trying to full out sprint

Re: Quick question....
this. any daw can make clean sounds, as long as you know how to make them with it. every daw is capable. this is why i said dl the demos and watch some videos and pick what you like best...deadly habit wrote:the tools don't matter if you have no clue what you're doing

and as far as imitating artists, its just good practice to learn how good producers make there music.
Re: Quick question....
if you dont want cheap and generic sounds then spend some time learning sound production and invest in high quality samples... which daw you use is irrelevant

Re: Quick question....
Fl is good for beginners. You open the application up, press the first button next to kick, press the 9th button next to snare, hit play, and you're 75% to a full blown brostep track, right there.
This doesn't preclude fl from being an incredibly advanced application with the best midi editor and extremely quick workflow used by producers at the highest level.
If I was just starting out, I'd start with ableton. I'd switch now, but know flstudio too well. It would take me years to get to where I am with fl.

No one told that other noob to fuck off either, and that kid did kinda have his thumb up his ass a bit, no offense.

to make not cheap sounds u gotta learn what it all does. i have found a lot of sounds sound tacky and if i process them right they sound pro.
reason is good for producing just electronics, i strongly reccomend it...but processing audio and spending money is part of it. try fruity loops, people love that shit. it never was cool to me but i had a friend who produced pro shit in it.
this isnt a cover letter and your not applying for a job. this is music.
get a keybord and start hitting keys.
