Re: Live performance.
A DJ setup and a live setup are going ot be itnerpretted differently here... When you say 'live' setup our minds are all going to jump to live productions i.e. drum machines, synths, ect, being played live on stage... DJing is a different thing entirely...alexolmer wrote:Like, a DJ setup? For performance in clubs.Sinisterbeats wrote:what sort of live setup?

Youll want...
A decent mixer (dont skint on this, a nice mixer will last you a lifetime and a cheap on will last you a week. Its just not worth the money saved being cheap)... Look at the differences between battle-style and club-style and see which will click better with you mentally, I love battle style mixers because Im a really crossfader/EQ heavy DJ and I dont worry too much about effects and all that, so minimal suits me. But, if effects and all that raz are more your thing, or if you plan to plug an extraordinary amount of players into one mixer, a club-style mixer might be better for you.
And a set of players... These, despite what people will tell you, are pretty ambiguous and you can probably skint off a bit on the pricetag and still get something plenty functional to practice on... Assuming you havent been collecting vinyl and stuff for a long period of time, you might want to consider starting off with CDJs. Youll be able to learn all the creative techniques on them you would on turntables bar scratching, youll be able to train your ears to beatmatch, and youll save alot of money on wax. I warn you to beware of CDJs with lots of gimmicky features, go for simplicity.
All you really need in a set of players at the end of the day though are two play buttons and two pitch faders.
Altogether, if you shop smart, youll probably be spending about 300$-500$ american.
Start with the basics and then work your way up.

Re: Live performance.
No because that really comes down to subjectivity and pricerange... How much you know, what you need them to do, your budget, all that comes into play... And I just dont feel comfortable bashing brand loyalty's around, that stuff always kinda irks me around the boards here...MedikProductions wrote:Good stuff, any brand recommendations on the dj equip?
