Before you post, please read the entire thing. I respect all opinions, but not if you're being ignorant. inb4, "omg, not another Skrillex thread.."

Alright, I've been creeping on these forums here and there, and I've seen that there are a lot of people who just straight up hate this guy. Now I know he doesn't produce the traditional dubstep that most of you listen to, but do you guys consider his genre to even be dubstep? If not, what would you call it? Personally, I like his stuff because his songs have a lot of dynamics in them, and in my opinion, are produced very well. I don't think I would be considered a Skrillex fan boy, but his music is some of my favorite. Don't get me wrong, Skrillex isn't the only dubstep (if it is actually dubstep) that I listen to. Anyway, why do some of you truly hate Skrillex? I'll respect your opinions.

For me personally when it comes to dubstep i need it to be filthy and created by someone who looks like a Gothic transsexual, this is why i love Skrillex and i will not let anyone say a bad word about him.

But to be brief, here are the reasons you are going to get.

1) He's riding the brostep bandwagon.
2) He's on the Mau5trap label
3) He can't mix to save his life
4) He was in that terrible emo band
5) Nowadays, when people think of dubstep, they think of Skrillex and the tons of other trash brostep producers, which is a terrible misrepresentation of the genre.
6) He sucks.

Honestly i wouldnt worry to much about what old school dub heads think about skrillex. Its kind of like asking an old AC/DC fan why he doesnt like the new Nickelback CD. (Maybe not a very good analogy, IDK.) But basically, Skrillex took an ingenious genre full of wonderful vibes and put it into a blender, threw way too many ingredients in it, took a piss in it, and founded a smoothie chain in america. the fact that you cant "Really" call it dubstep and yet, 99% of new dubstep listeners in america think he defines dubstep, i can see how that would piss some people off. personally i think we should create a new genre for SKrillex, and Deadmau5 and just call it HeyLilWannabeSceneKidListenToThisYouWillBeCool-Step.
but thats just my opinion.

A lot of people just don't like his music and others hate on him because he came from outta nowhere to be one of the most popular dubstep producers. Also being signed to Deadmau5 label, being in a emo band, having a rockstar attitude, hardly even mixing when he plays etc.

Yeah, plain and simple his ideas don't sink in much. Now Feed Me sounds similar, but I dig Feed Me. Why? I dunno, more work into the music? I'm fine with that side of dubstep but Skrillex isn't a favorite of mine.

I don't hate him but maybe it's because every verse he's ever done starts with a time-stretched version of this and people have spent way too much time trying to synthesize a bass that sounds like it:



Also, Diesel posted that he heard from reliable sources that the kid doesn't even make his own sounds...

Good replies guys. To be honest, I just like heavy modulated bass and drops. Skrillex just makes it sound really rich. But yeah, I agree that he's not the greatest at mixing, lol. To tell you the truth, there really is a big misconception of dubstep here in America. Some of my friends don't listen to the traditional dubstep because they think it's trash, but then again, they listen to Skrillex. They think that Skrillex produces the only "good" dubstep, which breaks my heart, because they don't give credit where it's due. But literally speaking, is Skrillex dubstep? I've heard people use words such as "Glitch" step and stuff, but if I were to say that he produces dubstep, would I be wrong? Nonetheless, I really don't care if he's scene, emo, gay, etc. As long as he delivers, I'm fine with that.

Anyway, what's brostep? Is that the other word for the new revolutionized dubstep?

Yeh revolutionized and forward thinking. Its over most peoples heads, to futuristic etc, thats why they hate on it..... I think it will catch on in a couple of years.

It definitely has key dubstep features buried in it. thats where it can be misleading. to anyone who discovered dubstep through youtube (possibly most americans?) its all about FILTHY WUBZ and SICK DROPZ YO. its like... the only way america can enjoy something is if you over process it til it doesnt have a single dull moment. thats why americans dont like classic dubstep. ive had the same problem you had showing "real" dubstep to my mates. they passed it off as "Weak" just because they were so used to listening to flux pavillions mid range brain stompers. I like some midrange, but for the most part it all sounds the same and eventually gives me a headache.

Too be honest, I can go both ways. I listen to pretty much everything and I like it (dubstep that is). I hope that doesn't give me the wrong image. Yeah I'm a person who listens to those mid range "brain stompers" (haha) but I still listen to the good original dubstep more often than not. Sometimes it even depends what mood I'm in. If I want to just relax and kick it, then I listen to the accustomed stuff. If I'm feeling uplifted, energetic, etc, I listen to the mid frequency stuff. Never do I prefer one over the other though, I like it equally.

Edit: I laughed at that video. Hahahahahah That was a load of bigotry. But I guess that floats his boat, and I'm cool with that. I give him props for doing what he does and not giving a shit.

It seems like to me about 80% of producers are ugly as f*ck. no offense to anyone.

Talent > Looks. Unless you're Justin Bieber, it's the other way around. Without his looks, he would be shit, because frankly, he's horrific.

The way he looks pretty much describes the way his music sounds and the people it attracts. And he was in that gay ass emo band haha.
