How do you feel about the dubstep scene?



Any positive changes?
Negative?

It's a crock of shit.

I still wish it was '06 or '07

But that'll never happen

But only I can push the sounds I like, so that's what i'll be doing.

It's become like a high school prom.

I'll never fuck the prom queen because I was puking out a bottle of JD by 10 pm alone in one of the classrooms.

I doubt I'd still be following it if it wasn't for people like JazzyJazzy

In my opinion the scene entered a time dominated by listeners that overlook well produced tunes.
like ashley said above, 06' 07' was the golden age of the dubstep sound.

as for good change,
the sound has become much more diverse
and elaborate for which grateful for.
introducing new styles from up and coming artists.

i enjoyed the dubstep shows a few years back more then I do as well. It's got a younger audience now then I remember

wasn't around in 06/07, but i've been to plenty of good nights, stayed away from music i don't like, and met plenty of cool people. seems to be going well here.

It's all about 2006

I think it's a polished turd in the way that the like of skrillex have given it such a stupid reputation, but it's been polished by guys like mount kimbie, ramadanman, anyone with a release on DMZ, and the H.E.N.C.H guys bringing consistently great tracks to the table.

I think it's great. There's loads of great music all over the world being produced and it's more popular than ever.

In another way though I can't stand the over saturation of it, formulaic crap and how's it's seeped it's way into being a throw away remix genre for drunk students in bad clubs.

But bitching about that stuff doesn't go anywhere. So keep buying records and supporting your local scene. We have nights like Subheavy and The Deep End down here in the southwest and they push nothing but the most interesting sounds out there at the moment. Dubstep is still strong.

04-06 was my shit, until '10 came... Now I'm on that '12 tip

if you lost faith in dubstep and you wish it were 2006 then you have to catch a set by joe nice!
saw him last weekend @cross-club/prague. dubplate business! drunken swagger, explorer, dmz vs mzn, lean fwd,...

i think people need to stop wishing it's 06, 07 and see that even though it's become commercialised, it's still a really exciting time for the sound.
2011 is gonna be massive!

The dubstep scene is just evolving. It happens overtime, with all genres. The underground still exists and I'm still hearing amazing new tunes, that are as good as the ones from the mid naughties. However, what will happen to dubstep in the next 5 years I really do not know, but im sure we will all hate it.

Probably die back to obscurity. aha

I think one of the main problems is with people believing that Dubstep is, or indeed was, a homogeneous "scene", one that is somehow now non-existent, or rather tainted by the commercialisation of the sound. This problem is accentuated further I believe, by certain individuals trying to define themselves by their affiliation to this so-called "scene". It really annoys me when people say things such as, 'I wish it was still 06/07', because this is exactly the kind of attitude which just encourages division and hate within the music, causing it to stagnate. Seriously though, just look at the sheer quality and diversity of releases that are coming out on labels such as Osiris, Tempa, Swamp81, DMZ, Hessle Audio, Wheel and Deal, Black Box... The list goes on. In fact, I would even go as far as saying that this sort of attitude is just as damaging (and apologies for the use of a blatent stereotype here) as when the chainsaw bass bandwagon jumpers (and I'm not talking about everyone who likes this sort of sound here) come out with ignorant shit regarding the deeper stuff. For example, calling it 'boring', or 'slow', and often simply because they lack the appropriate speakers or headphones required in order to understand the quintessential concept of bassweight. Regardless of whether you were "there from the beginning", or indeed only discovered it last week, it is the true heads and music fans that really love this sound that will continue to push it, long after all the hype has worn off, and Dubstep is no longer the flavour of the week. The only way this can be achieved however is through unity and by going forward, not by constantly arguing over mundane topics concerning what constitutes Real Dubstep, and by tragically consigning ourselves forever to this mythical "golden era".
