De La Mancha makes some pretty cool free retro synths. This one is aimed specifically at 8bit chiptune sounds.

I just got everything from tweakbench!! Its soo cool. absolutely loving it. but anyways I have a 64 bit windows 7 system and they are working fine for me in ableton.

Mini SID - great for crazy arps. As used in the tune in my sig. Not sure if it's actually 8-bit though. ;)

There's also basic 64 which is sweet.

dude, I'm a fanatic about the 8bit and video game chip sounds. Plogue Chipsounds is the best VST/Plugin you can snatch up.
