Lack of hardware.

I've been making dub tracks unprofessionally for about a year or two now and they're starting to sound alright, however, the only equipment I've used is my computer and nothing else. I was wondering if buying new hardware/equipment will greatly increase my production quality and if so, what to buy?
Cheers.

I think you should move to California, buy the condo below me, and be my production assistant. I'll teach you everything I know, and in exchange, I'll never touch the mouse again.
Deal?

I'd say start with a Midi Controller and an audio interface of some sort. I wouldn't go to crazy on the price right away unless you can really afford it.

get a midi keyboard. later, you may want a knob board and/or drum pads but a keyboard is the best hardware to start with. However, it will only improve your quality if you are comfortable playing a piano/keyboard.

Make sure you get one that is usb, or you'll need to buy some midi to usb adapters if you don't go for any kind of midi interface or anything.

Gotcha.
1. Midi Keyboard with a USB output.
2. Midi controller.
Cheers.

They wont improve your production quality though, just save you some time. NOTHING. nothing. is going to improve your production but hard work.

id do that if u were closer. fuckk doin a little manual work for music knowledge? sounds like a great deal to me.
also to the op: for the people saying a midi keyboard wont improve your production quality. i think it will because you will be able to bang out more creative and better bass lines and synths. idk about you but i suck at drawing in notes on the piano roll. its much easier to come up with something catchy using a keyboard.
plus it will speed up your workflow, giving you more time to do other things.

They're the same thing.
U only need one, its a USB MIDI controller.
The next thing is to look at io converters and monitors, not another controller.

you don't really have to buy anything to improve your production quality, like basic A said,it'll just save you some time. Doctor P just has a computer, and the quality of his stuff is good.

And even then, hard work may not even improve your production.

Yeah, sounds good. May just stick with buying a USB Midi Keyboard/controller, since I'm decent at piano then I'll see where stuff goes from there.
Cheers guys

I'm currently learning about accounting from scratch. Hard work is a good way of summarizing the process (which now feels to me like learning to produce did way back when all that was new to me). What I'd forgotten was how uncomfortable 'hard work' actually feels when I don't understand the basic concepts of the topic being presented and have to sit there actually reading and researching terms I don't understand!
Perserverance is the key to success, be it producing music or learning any thing else. Shit, it took me 4 years for me to learn to kickflip (although I could ollie
massive road cones along time before that) and 6 years to k-grind perfectly...
I think the process goes like this.
Perserverance = Pain.
Pain = Knowledge of the reality of our endeavor.
Knowledge = Power.
???
Profit!
