you know what sucks
when your high as tits and feelin a grove. you write some of a bass line with a sick idea. then you start fiddling with knobs to tweak it a bit. then look up and realize its been a half an hour and you lost your creative drive.
for some reason i can make much better bass lines when im high. i just get into it quicker. but then i always end up getting side tracked and losing my creativity. it sucks lol. i gotta remember to not fiddle when im high. just concentrate on making the main bass line/melody etc.
anyone else got this problem lol

^then why answer?
its better when your high and you end up working on something for two hours and tweak it to the point you hate
kinda loses the spontaneity of the moment. but for the other 10 times you get something good it evens out

Re: you know what sucks
Try writing your bass lines on a gm piano when your high. Then you can come back, import the midi into synth of choice, and tweak it when your clear headed. It's all about minimizing the distractions that become more pronounced when high as shit. BTW, there's another thread out there called weed and producing.

If ever I feel uncreative and in need of a boost I go through sample packs and tutorials.. trying to find a sample/sound that makes the tune or atleast sets me back to working.

Also, maybe trying to practice writing a little more often when you're not high will help you to become more creative without relying on whatever your drug of choice is?

Re: you know what sucks
I do find if I`m really stoned and just enjoying the sonic nature of the music, I tend to get stuck with repetition of single sounds.
The resulting tunes are great but if I listen with a less intense ear, it just sounds too off-the-wall.
But imo, that`s when I`m producing the best tunes.
It`s all subjective I think.
I make something that repeats a loop but creates a sonic canvas with the movement and repetitive sounds.
Someone else hears said canvas and just doesn`t understand it.

1.take a break from smoking for a while until you get used to producing sober.
2.maybe your sounds are going to shit because of sound/ear fatigue?
3.next time you work on a sound and it starts sounding a bit silly, save the sound and start working on a new sound
4.go back to the silly sound a few hours/days/weeks later and i guarantee it will sound fresh to you again

Re: you know what sucks
yeah but really my problem is just that i get high to get in the groove, but then i end up fiddling and not even realizing it lol
theres something about twisting knobs in a daw while baked that just mesmerizes you and completely fucks you over.
sucks cuz i had a good idea for what my b line was going to do next but i completely forgot it all because i had to tweak it a bit.
it was a non wobbly sort of flux pavilion ish sounding bass that i created on my own

Re: you know what sucks
Its not really a problem with you man, lots of people have the same problem in some form. For me, usually I get an idea when I'm in class and by the time I'm home, I lost the creativitylyons238 wrote:yeah but really my problem is just that i get high to get in the groove, but then i end up fiddling and not even realizing it lol

Re: you know what sucks
pshhh I just stopped smoking cus im too broke to keep it up, sure ill grab a toke now and then but I think im done with the ganj for now. I am way better at everything I do when im not blazed. Try not being such a stoner and relying on weed to get shit done. Not that im against it but it has so much potential for abuse... and it doesn't really do you any favors that you couldn't already be doing with some motivation.
