Now I know there are plenty of on this forum that download vinyl rips etc of good artists that they SHOULD be supporting, if they really like their music;

But what do you guys do if you come across links of free music that you know isnt free.

For instance, I am not gonna post the links, but I just came across two Soundcloud accounts, while searching for goth trad songs, and came across one guy who had 10 pages of free downloads.. many Deep Medi, Tempa, DMZ etc.

Another who seems to have uploaded quite a few of the tracks from the MOS cd, such as Qawalli , Disco Rekah, 50,000 watts etc.


I know this problem is wayyyy too massive to ever really stop it but do you think a small message in the right direction from one person is atleast a start. Some of these people dont even fathom the idea of it being wrong and wack, but for me to support these artists, pay for my music on vinyl and mp3 and then have people just floating them about, kinda gets to me sometimes.

Especially when I come across comments on the free tracks such as on Viveks "Pulse" around the second drop, "Succckkkss!! Thats not Dubstep".. and on Silkies "I sed", "Where the hell is the drop, ABSOLUTELY SUCKS"


Do I send them a nerdy telling off message? Do I tattle on them to soundcloud? Do I contact the Label heads of the Labels that own this music?

Do I get over it and I accept that even sending a message to anyone about it is a complete waste of my time and theirs?

you can report soundcloud accounts for copyright infringement.
Alert the labels and artists that have copyrighted material being given away
not much else really

Stop worrying about something you can’t change and carry on supporting you scene, If your reppin it properly its kl just do your thing.

I’ve also never understood how people get stressed at YouTube comments either, the person writting the stupid comment is generally sum derk head who sits at home munching wotsits and wanking all day chatting shit, its more comedy than anything.

Yeah you are right^ I have read countless things on youtube that are 10 times as stupid as the comments I read on soundcloud, but its kinda salt in the wound when you see someone dissing full 320 downloads of your favourite tracks!

Not much you can about the ignorant masses and their inane comments. Though, reporting to soundcloud sounds like a good idea.

Report the link if poss, and send a message, or if it's on facebook leave a comment with your thoughts

forget about the comments. if someone is uploading music that isn't theirs that's grounds for reporting

soundcloud has every reason to get rid of that shit as quickly as possible so definitely report it.

From what I gather, Soundcloud want to stay on top of this stuff. Report copyright infringement.

Worse still are the dickheads upping stuff claiming to be their own productions. stnuc. Seriously. What wrong with those guys?

It's 2011--most people can just access and listen to it at any place and any time for free anyhow.

I mean I understand that they should be supporting artists--but I also think they do. Artists feel love, if they didn't I doubt they'd still produce. They still get support through shows, merchandise, AND still sell mp3s (probably to the people who can afford something they can get for free off youtube). Honestly, if I found some account with my shit I didn't authorize that someone re-upped I'd think it was cute and would be beyond flattered :O I'd probably thank them for sharing.

Not saying they're getting chunks of dollars thrown at them constantly that's just not realistic, but since when has being a musician meant a thing like that? Apart from mainstream Justin/Katy shit. And if that's where these dubstep producers were at, how many of you would dismiss them as sell outs?

The RIAA is a joke anyhow, and they're basically the biggest risk.

According to them, the entire Vanilla Ice discography is worth like 50,000,000 or something ridiculous. I think I saw that on an infographic once...
