Wow, this is my first ever new topic.

Anyways, I was thinking of getting FM8. Anyone have any idea if its any good and what kind of stuff I can use it for?

FM8 is capable of pretty much all types of sounds.. Basses, leads, pads, bells, percussion, dodgey weird shit....

If you know how to use FM Synthesis I doubt you'll find something better as a piece of software.

Is it good? Well yes, its the best FM synth out there, is it worth the price? Probably.

It's a solid all around synth for leads and bass. Big Chocolate recently said he has been working with it a lot.

Defo a replacement for massive then?

I wouldn't say replacement, its a totally different way of synthesis.. It sounds, acts and make sounds differently. It has its own workflow and a HUGE learning curve.. Its on the same professional level as Massive is on the quality front (since its from the same company) but not at all a replacement.. A added weapon in your arsenal would be a more suiting choice of words.

Not a replacement! I wouldn't say anything should replace massive, but you should deffo get it!

Have you tried u-he ACE ledge? i havent tried Fm8 so dunno if its the best Fm synth out there but really like ACE even if im still learning it after half a year, big learning curve with fm synths but definatly worth it as to me its the more advanced form of synthesis (compared to Subtractive and addive synthesis or wavetable (massive)

Im jus a bit pissed off with with massive. Every time I turn on FL, I just try and make trolly snatcha noises every though I effin' hate that shit

Sorry for kinda stealing this thread (but its better than making a new one) I also wanted to get into FM synthesis and got the demo for FM8 totally confusing, would I be better off learning with albino 3 or operator? (I have these)

I dont think albino 3 is an fm synthesiser... its a semimoduler subtractive synth (says a quick google)

Operator is an Fm synth says the internet also, and since you have them id suggest use them first. I dont use operator so cant really comment, have also heard alot of good things about operator and at one point made me seriously think about swapping daws to ableton.

FM8 is a pretty sick synth, just one question about it if anyone can answer me... I know how to use the filters in FM8, but for some reason i feel like it is not filtering the whole sound (i have the volume on 100 and everything is being routed through the filter). The filter just seems super weak i guess you could say, and i know that if everyone loves this synth i must be doing something wrong. Does anyone have any idea?? id love to be able to use FM8

If so, then i'd say without hearing that yeah, probably just the filters aren't too ... good. Or you're not double checking the filter type and cuttoff freq. I had the same problem with it, so i just resample the FM8 audio and filter elsewhere
but to be perfectly honest I mainly use it for presets and effects for playing chords

Well with operator I kinda got a better feel for the lay seems simpler but if fm8 can do more things and sounds better ill stick my time into that

yeah its definately turned on. ill try fiddling with it more later. man thats dissapointing, cause i know you could get some fucking crazy bass sounds iwth that FM, but a synth with shitty filters... well taht just sucks. I dont really have any VST filters that can do an LFO so it kinda limits me. I guess auto filter in ableton could always work.

use almost any sampler

FM8 has notoriously slow envelopes, hence "lazy" sounding filters. like the past few posts have said, bounce to audio, filter with something else like a sampler or wow or atlantis

definitely big ups on FM8. It's a beast synth.

If you're interested in a few ni products, like massive and fm8, I'd just get Komplete. I can't tell you what a powerhouse of fuckage that package is.
