Noob making himself look like an idiot

So I read "want to make dubstep?", BUT after reading all that I still can't decide on what to do.

I have a budget of around $1500, what should I get? Oh and I'm not including software cost in that, just hardware.

Nothing. Until you have MASTERED a piece of software inside and out. Nothing.

I could sit here and recommend a bunch of TLA audio valve outboard gear...but, i don't know if you even have a soundcard...or audio cables...so, what do you already have?

Well I have nothing at all, I'm JUST starting out. I heard Ableton Live was pretty easy to work with so I'm going to get that soon. Soundcard... Like an apogee duet?

Ergh.. The reason the production bible was created was so people can use their own initiative!!!!!

There is no 'ONE' daw to use, they all have good and bad points, demo them ALL - find what you like the most and BUY it

here is a list of mainstream DAWs.

Reaper
Renoise
Logic
Ableton Live
FL Studio
Reason
Cubase

Heres a list of hardware you need more than hardware synths and processing effects.

Fucking hell, get a free DAW or something like Cubase/Logic if you're serious for a few hundred. Work out the plugins that come within that DAW and then move on from there. Get a pair of monitors for a few hundred and a soundcloud for less than £100, sorted.

Then spend that $1500 on football accumulators and Jack Daniels.

I like the Jack Daniels idea... ;)

But seriously, there's people on this forum using free DAWs, freeware plugins, an old beat up laptop and value hifi speakers who're making quality music. A pair of monitors and a soundcard is definitely nice, and if you're serious it's worth splashing a bit of cash on a decent audio workstation like Cubase/Logic, but other than that i'd leave it at least half a year before spending any more.

I went down the hardware route when i first started 2 or 3 years ago too and whilst it was fun it was essentially lost money. I clearly remember recording my MicroKorg and my Roland MC-303 into audacity using an audio interface i bought for £3 on ebay. Ahhhhhh

Indeed! I wanna get loads of us owners together and do a orchestra.

Sounds good man. I went to a local music store, and this guy was just tryin to sell me loads of stuff I don't need... I'm tryin to spend as little as possible, but I don't want to sacrifice the quality of the music I'll be making. So I guess a decent midi keyboard, a nice pair of headphones(I'm in an apartment... No monitors for me!), and logic should be enough?

You need a mac for Logic.

A good windows alternative is Cubase or Reaper (when it comes to look of it)

Basically, I ain't encouraging any illegal downloading but all you REALLY need is a daw, a keyboard and a mouse... For the last 2years ive wrote everything on a PC keyboard for playing notes or writing the notes in... Once you get into making music properly, you'll care about mix downs and getting better and then you can make purchases.. Just make sure you're using something which has bass response (no ipod headphone business) but a good pair of headphones are an investment really, they can double as your mp3-player headphones.

If the next DSF meetup party thing happens, i'm bringing mine with me. We'll have an afterparty somewhere and make some funky MC-303 goodness

I think most people on here won't agree but I think Reason is pretty easy to use. It's more of a simulation of the
hardware setups then other DAW's, that's why it makes more sense to me.

...you talkin bout me?

OP, no daw is easier or harder then others, they all work essentially the same, its a question of what color you want your background, essentially.
