I produce techno that sounds like dubstep is my answer.
its all about 2005-2006 "dubstep" before dubstep became that wobble nonsense.

ive tried to merge the two in the past.. i think dubstep itself draws a lot from techno. but ive tried to do it (on purpose).

be more specific when you say "techno", because most people haven't the faintest clue what techno actually is. It's one of the few electronical (yeah, new word, dig it!) genres that still has integrity.

how do you lot keep your arrangements interesting, with the track ive just got down it sounds good but too samey. ive listened to other tracks by the big producers and there productions are really samey but you dont loose interest, what are your pointers?

lots of movement with the pads, constant energy with builds mixed lightly in the background and dropouts of the beat and the bass from time to time.

Subtle edits on your main drums and variations in percussion.
Automation on volume, reverb and panning.

i will have to add a little something to this.

a while ago... techno in its american form, which is the branch of techno i think you are referring to... (maybe the modern techy stuff, that still comes from there) (i mean DANCEABLE techno)... (and no i dont think its the only techno etc etc etc stop being a pure twat) set a tradition of laying out stacks of somewhat simple musical arrangements... ''samey'' ideas, but a lot of buildups and releases, all without loss of interest.

it allowed machines, which were analog at the time... to speak...

on a 909, each kick is different. i dont know if you know it, but one could listen to a 909 kick layed 4 to the floor during 20 minutes without being bored one bit. it is often different with sample triggering...

... unless... you find a good sampler, and modulate certain aspects of the sound in an extremely subtle manner.

eg : kick decay modulated by an extremely fast and non retriggered lfo... over 5-7 cents...

seriously, try it, for me, it does wonders.
