I know americans can comprehend but not sure europeans can wrap their heads around how big the state of texas is and how much if it is unpopulated wooded area.
Think something like 300k acres burned already with no end in sight.
We went to see the San Angelo fire this morning. Literally miles upon miles of nothing but fire.

and that's only 14.09% of the united states' landmass! what's this then? the UK coming to a stark realization? maybe some political perspective? better not get ahead of myself here...

What was it, 5, 6, 7 years ago in la, was wicked fires. The sky was just constantly dim and red. Couldn't even play basketball indoors cause the floor was covered in ash and was too slippery, and the fires were like 90 miles away. Fucking hard to breath. Went on for weeks. I remember thinking, like enough bro, no more fires. haha.

If y'all think texas is big, shall we do an alaska comparison?

Nah, I think its just that we spend all our lives looking at those bullshit maps that don't show true proportion, we're fully aware we're small and insignificant in a geographical sense.

didn't mean just that, it's that the US is so vast in geography, that the same governing techniques advocated in Europe take on a different context when applied to a country that could well be divided into 40+ countries

Was thinking about this not long ago, could you foresee a point in the (perhaps not so distant) future when the centralized government loses control, dividing the country into autonomous states? Or is shit actually pretty stable over there?

Most states are pretty autonomous when it comes to having their own laws. Unfortunately, that also makes it take a lot longer for any sort of national civil rights change to take place.
