These turntables are beginning to fuck me off.

Post by budsteq » Tue Apr 26, 2011 10:55 pm

So I started a thread a while back because the needles on my turntables were skipping. Now, since Ive finally got a mixer, I'm trying to set it up so I can start actually learning something.

But, Im getting no sound.

Heres a diagram of how I've got 'em set up. yes, everything is plugged in and turned on, yes the speakers are working.
The stereo amp is simply refusing to send sound through my mixer.

Just move through the signal chain step by step: turntable -> mixer -> stereo amp. Cute picture btw.

thanks ;)

When I go to plug the RCA from the mixer to stereo I get some feedback before- meaning its picking up that signal, but when I do the same thing with the turntables to the mixer, no noise at all.

Have you checked which input the decks are going into? Most mixers have phono and line inputs.

^ While you're at it, check your phono/line switches as well.

yeah they are in the phono input, switches are also on phono. the inputs on my stereo amp are phono, cd, vcr 1 record, vcr1 playback, and VCR2 playback/record but none of them are fucking working :u: maybe my mixer is just fucked?

Do you get music through the headphones? Do the channel levels light up?

It might help telling us what setup you have.

Try using a line level input into your mixer (CD player, computer, ipod, etc) and see if you can get signal then.

This does not look good. As a last gasp check though, try and get some headphones from somewhere to at least try and hear if signal is making it to your mixer.

it shouldn't matter which input the mixer is hooked up to on the amp, should it?

Given your description of your stereo, the 'CD' input should suffice. Of course that doesn't mean shit if you can't get signal into your mixer in the first place...

mm, I've never had to set these up before though, so I could just be useless -.- should there be a signal of sorts before I even connect the mixer to the stereo?

It sounds like it's either your mixer or your amp. If you can get signal with headphones from the mixer, then it's your amp.

Are the speaker buttons engaged? Have you tried plugging an CD deck directly into the amp?

EZ

It can be any one except for phono. Try plugging your turntable directly into the amp using the phono input.

Is the mixer switched on and plugged into a power socket? :6:
