Weather Report is one of my favorite bands. The bass player before Jaco was also badass: Alphonso Johnson. Here is one tune from Mysterious Traveller, an excellent album:



Joe Zawinul on the synthesizers and keys is also a badass.

Here is another cut from that record. This pic has Jaco in it, but the bass player in this tune is Alphonso. Listen to that bassline.

Classic Jaco, Teen Town from the Heavy Weather LP:



Jaco also played the drums on this cut, he was a highly skilled drummer but a wrist injury made him switch to bass (and we're thankful he did, no other bassist has played like Jaco before or since).
