Firmly established as the UK’s number 1 Bashment sound, core member and main DJ Gabriel Heatwave has cemented his place within the worldwide Bass music community with his quickfire mixing, superb Dancehall relicks and on-point blogging, often bringing exclusive material from Jamaica to UK attention. The Heatwave are a firm favourite at Liquid Steel and always guaranteed to cork the dance!

STICKY
Garage legend, DJ & producer Sticky is also a highly accomplished talent scout. Largely responsible for breaking acts like Ms Dynamite, the man that brought us classics like ‘Things we do’, ‘Triplets’ and ‘Boo!’ is back once again on the Funky-Bashment tip. Recently he’s collaborated with Lady Chann, Glamma Kid and reprised his past collabs with Maxwell D and Ms Dynamite. A man with an impeccable ear for a killer B-line, Sticky is firmly back on the radar dropping bangers and stupidly hyped sets all over the UK once again.

A write up is not going to do this mad-crazy crew much justice. Hailing from Liquid Steel’s birthplace, Sheffield, this rag-tag bunch of Bassline botherers are fast taking the world by storm with their intense levels of production and DIY method of distribution. Their digital (often free) label has seen releases from Ricorb, Kanji Kinetic, Lenkemz and of course two of the core members of the squad, THE SQUIRE OF GOTHOS. The Electro-Bassline-Gabba tag team that is Big Al & Titch are much loved in Bristol, expect them to fuck it down hard! Fast taking over the rave and club scene, Squire are joined by the formidable duo of DANKLE & MOOVA. With so many artists on the roster it was hard to narrow it down to four, fingers crossed a few heads drop by to say hi!

DUB BOY
One of Bristol’s most beloved DJs, known throughout the global Tropical Bass scene and always pulling out new mixes at a ridiculous rate, most people know the score with this guy – great party tunes from Steppas, Digi Dancehall & Dubstep right through to UK Funky, Bashment & Soca, plus a few choice dubplates for good measure!

ROOM TWO - BRISTOL BASS SHOWCASE

Heading up the second room is Sureskank’s Kahn & Neek with their excellent Gorgon Sound project. What most impressed us when we saw these guys was their possession of so many acetate Dubplates of their own productions, something increasingly rare amongst the digital generation. It’s great to see a younger generation embracing dubplate culture and their riddims are tuff! Keeping the dubplate vibe alive, there’s very little material out on the web to check but Kahn has had a great output of Dubstep on Peverelist’s Punch Drunk label.
STRYDA
One of the bastions of Dub and Roots culture in Bristol, DJ Stryda has run the Sufferah’s Choice radio show on Passion for over a decade now. A true defender of soundsystem culture, he recently curated a documentary about the movement in the Swedish produced documentary ‘Musically Mad’. One part of ‘Dubkasm’, he is now touring the globe alongside vocalists like Solo Banton, continuing to spread his positive message in Bass.

In stark contrast with Stryda, this Dubstep prodigy has already had a release on Subdepth despite still being in college. Sometimes sounding more West Coast than West Country, his inimitable style is clearly lent from Bristol and it’s plethora of producers but definitely has a fresh quality that’s all it’s own. TESSELA
Not strictly Bristol but only across the way in Bath, expect to hear the name Tessella a lot more in the next 12 months. After gaining attention from Devon label, Shifting Peaks, Tessela is increasingly being touted as one to watch alongside the deep sounding Hackman, Hodge and other Garage producers that combine tinges of House & Minimal Techno. This set promises to be the perfect groove and chill whilst the OffMeNut boys are destroying the dancefloor downstairs!
