Pitch drops at end of notes ?

Post by Tiger Blood » Sun May 08, 2011 7:35 pm

Hey guys, made a post in another thread about this but couldnt get it to work

Looking to recreate an effect in this track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJzfTZlEl40

at 0:27 seconds in the hind of drop downs at the end of the notes. Ive tried the pitch bend modulation and it didnt get anywhere near the same noise.

Thanks !

it's in renoise. resampling, pitch effects, and manual granular synthesis is too easy in renoise. highly recommended :)

so if you open up ableton and goto a channel strip. add any old instrument to try this. for this example ill just use a drum rack.

throw a sample in the rack and draw out a note. (a synth might work better to hear it) where your midi note is, if you look under the clip square, there should be 3 circles at the bottom, one an L, a music note, and an E.

click the E. this is your envelopes and you can automate any note in a clip in here with just the pencil tool. clip the pitch bend option if you just want that, and draw a down angle at the end of your note.

boom. pitch drops all over that bitch.

hope that helps

If you try to edit the pitch envelope inside of the sample you've loaded into ableton, fuck about with the different warping options after you have your pitch bend drawn in. On something like "beats" mode for example, the pitch wont actually bend as one fluent motion. But if you change your warp option to something like, "complex" you will get more natural sounding pitch bends. Im pretty sure the only way to do pitch bends in ableton without use of a sampler, is to use the internal envelope method. If you cant get that to sound the way you want, you may have to look into a seperate sampler, like Battery for example, or if you dont have the time or cash to get new sampler plugins, you could just use impulse in ableton and automate the transpose pitch button. This is a method ive never really used though, so i cant guarantee it will work as I expect it to. I almost always stick to the internal pitch envelope as it allows me to seperately treat each little sample I might want to pitch up or down quickly and efficiently.
