sample & hold talking sound

I came across this tutorial, a 'PWM dirty' oscillator wave, with a sample & hold effect and LP filtering in between them.
I use ableton and with their 'redux' you can achieve the same, but I've got a couple of questions about this;

- wich oscillation waveform is best for this?
- the resonance is very important because it makes the sound, but it gives a secondary layer that sounds annoying, what is a good way to handle this?

I know you've got to layer the sub seperatly and I am fattening the sound up with various plug ins, but guys like Skrillex or Excision get it so clean...

Maybe there's another thread about this, I don't know 'cause I've just arrived :oops:
I hope you've got useful tips for me.

cheers

That video, sounds like a sawtooth.

Not entirely sure what you mean by a 'secondary level' - do you mean as though you've got some detuning with the waveforms?

The resonance is necessary for creating the talking sound, the vowel's. But it impacts the original wave aswell, because the resonance has to be high up, you get a squeeling by-sound.
De-tuning makes the sound only more blurry, the harmonics have to stay clear I think.
