I just wanted to know where people like flux pavillion and skrillex get there vocals to remix. Are they just getting them off the net or do they have a deal with the labels where they are given all the parts and get to remix them first ?

Once you get to a certain level, labels will often approach artists and request they do a remix of their tune, at which point they will provide the relevant parts.

Until that point, you'll be looking at making bootlegs (assuming you can't find the vocals etc) by chopping up what versions of the tune do already exist and taking the bits out of there.

Skrillex gets them himself, according to an interview he did a while back.

When I bootleg, I put my name on it. Often because key parts are made unrecognizable

A lot of the time you can find acapellas using google and stuff. If you want to do a full blown remix where you get stems you should try searching for those little labels that do remix comps to promote their tracks.
Go on Soundcloud and search 'remix' or 'remix competition' or something. You can often find stuff.

Btw, does anyone know what the deal is with bootlegging copyrighted material and then uploading it to Soundcloud?
I've just finished a remix of an Enter Shikari tune and I want to put it on Soundcloud but I'm wondering wether I should leave 'Enter Shikari' out of the title so their label don't pick me up on it and get it taken down.
It's easy to get away with if the title is anonymous. Anyone know if I'm allowed to do that? :L

if your looking for an accapella just the messge the artist, worked for me

Most mainstream artists will ignore the fuck out of you. Personally, I' wouldn't bother. Just google "song name" acapella

yeh true dat that most mainstream artists wont give a fuck (and probs wont even be able to get hold of the vocal track)
search around for smaller artists who are still just as talented, more likely to get a response.

I've made plenty of remixes so far, and haven't ran into any trouble. My most popular remix at the moment is my remix of Sleepyhead by Passion Pit (http://soundcloud.com/internet-slave-ma ... -ism-remix). It's got over 600 views on Youtube (probably nothing to most of you, but it's a lot to me), and I haven't gotten any complaints from Colombia Records, and it's a video response to the original video.

Again, if your tune gets bigger, you never know, but in my experience, nothing has come of it. Assuming you aren't trying to sell the tracks.
